News Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland Gets Darth Vader in Major Timeline Expansion

I think the "current" timeline could have been fine if they'd delivered on what they promised. When Rise opened and you had a decent number of characters around it almost felt like a real place. But even that was a "cutback" from what they'd sold us on. The interactive elements fizzled and the aliens still haven't arrived. I guess they've given up
Well they’ve bombed the franchise as much as humanly possible with the resiliency of Star Wars…I wouldn’t call that “ideal”

That’s likely affected plans for all related things

Galaxy’s Edge has to be viewed as something of a disappointment, no? Bob Chapek was reportedly enraged when Solo flopped since he was building the entire Millennium Falcon ride around the movie and it’s been kinda downhill ever since.

Here's what Asa Kalama, EVP for Creative and Interactive Experiences at WDI, had to say about the timeline changes at Disneyland Resort: What's sort of exciting about this is it's going to allow visitors both to the West Coast and the East Coast to experience different points of the Star Wars timeline.

Interesting. I think Studios has other areas that are a higher priority for investment (looking at you Echo Lake), but I do hope these updates make their way to "our" GE sooner rather than later.

Everyone said this pre opening that locking into a timeline and not having music was stupid.

Disney took immersion too far.

I remember reading an article shortly after the land opened and Disneyland was a ghost town, the land announced in 2015 was originally envisioned as an all encompassing Star Wars land for all eras of characters (and walk around droids and aliens) to appear in.

However, Force Awakens did so well that Lucasfilm was given control over the land's narrative and thats when it got locked into a timeline where the most legendary popular characters couldn't even appear.

I later read another article mentioning it was even being considered in 2019 that the land could either convert to the original trilogy or become Agrobah from Aladdin.

Everyone saw this as an issue back then, amazed it took 7 years to fix but glad this is happening.

Now we just need the walk around droids, aliens, and the role-playing/interactive elements of the land that never happened (and no the app scanner thing doesn't count).

edit: found an article about budget cuts by the late great Al Lutz, likely one of the last updates he wrote.
