DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

The private room for getting in and out of the vehicle at Runaway Railway is really nice, we were pleasantly surprised and thought it was great they included that. Like I said, people stare when you're in the open and it makes an unpleasant situation worse. The cast member was really friendly and patient, too.

But it's only necessary to begin with because getting into the stupid thing was a multi-minute job that required puzzle solving.

Is FoP is more restrictive than Rock N Roller Coaster?

They have a little copy of the ride vehicle outside you can try out before waiting in line, which I think is the only time Disney World does that (maybe Tron has one?). That should tell you a lot.

This is an incredibly naive comment. Advertisers wanting something for spending millions on an attraction?

Really? And you know this... how?

"We must continue to conserve and extend today's energy sources, and develop a broad mix of alternatives for the future."

"It calls for practical and affordable new sources (of energy) for tomorrow."

Other energy sources/topics mentioned in the original ride:

Geothermal
Wind
Solar
Hydroelectric
Nuclear (fission)
Nuclear fusion

And who would have thought that a company primarily focused on oil (in 1982) would have focused on that? Just unacceptable.

Thus endeth today's lesson.
Actually, it was quite progressive for the 1980s. I will concede that having big oil in there now would not be a great thing which is why you could have used the pavilion to literally showcase the new technology like Solar, wind etc. People would be more likely be willing to sign on to alternative energy if they were educated properly but no we would rather go with the talking racoon.

- Tiana's Bayou Adventure
I will make a special comment here. Tiana's is literally a thrill attraction which is usually aimed at an older crowd, yet Tiana is a "Disney Princess" character a brand that is supposed to be for young girls and the writing on the attraction would not sound out of place in a Disney Junior Show. It seems that WDI isn't really sure who or what it's audience is though of course the real reason was to kill Splash at all costs so I guess as long as they accomplished that they could have themed it to nearly anything.

"C'mon kids! Let's go on that new attraction about solar energy!"

Interestingly, it is still technically an "energy pavilion" since the capstone is supposed to be a demo of the cosmic generator. Just fantasy energy. 😐

Was it ever really a good thing? It’s not like oil only became bad for the environment in the last 40 years.

Not necessarily. I personally would not have gone with Exxon but it is what it is unfortunately. The way Ellen's literally shrugged off global warming was pretty bad and is part of why I think the Ellen version lasted too long to put it lightly.

I agree with this, but I'd still argue EPCOT is the best WDW park overall, and it's frankly not close in terms of its diversified offerings and its incredible theming in World Showcase. I'd imagine MK post-Villains will easily take this distinction.

AK just doesn't have enough rides, period and HWS relies way too heavily on headliners while easily being the worst-designed park of the bunch by a mile. Though I do still love the Hollywood aesthetic.
When one considers Epcot and specifically Imagination I can't help but think that there must be something I am missing. That pavilion had a lengthy agenda when it came to being a people eater. There was the longer and quite a bit more amazing Figment/Dreamfinder ride now relegated to just a few minutes because so many people just quickly walk through the gift shop exit and out into the park. Figments popularity was enormous and it is the same people that still are loyal to the him. The ride now being less than spectacular has not managed to win over the number of followers that it once had. Those of us that were fans are not going to be around much longer and the new people are not enamored by it at all.

The Imagination Pavilion was once a spectacular pavilion with the ride, the Honey I shrunk the Audience movie (now collecting dust) and the hands on area with the rainbow tunnel (now a rest home for spiders) meant a lot of people in one place at one time. That whole place might as well be torn down and replaced with an empty lot. Do you realize that they never even bothered to create a sign for the ride. Just a cloth banner that has looked filthy since about two days after it was put up. That, to me, has been the largest decrease in quality of any location in all of WDW. I don't know if they have even repaired the outside fountains that were not aimed properly the last time I bothered to even look at them. The jury is still out on the loss of the RoA in MK and it's replacement. That has the possibility of being great or being just another Disney could have been.

I would certainly disagree with that. Ellen wasn't as great as the original UOE but it was certainly preferable to a roller coaster advertisement where you learn nothing in a park that was supposed to entertain, inform and inspire not act as a damn toy commercial.
You must be kidding about the original UOE which was nothing more than a lengthy Exxon infomercial the just attempted to inform us of how much Exxon loved the environment and only cared about how they benefited all of us. Ellen, no matter how corny it was, taught more about energy than Exxon ever even attempted. It at least was slightly entertaining instead of boring. So much so that if that "show" had come on your TV all of us would have immediately changed the channel. I suspect that most of us that were a captive audience wished that we could have been handed a remote to see what else was on.
That was also within the time of the Exxon Valdez million gallon oil spill in Alaska.

Yes and no one died on Horizons.
Yes, but they could have. It wasn't the ride that killed them it was 1. a person with a pre-existing condition that decided to ignore the warning signs and 2. also a pre-existing condition that had not been diagnosed before the incident.

I think it is a great idea that they did the split of orange and green to accommodate for more people. After many years of Horizon I was close to dying of boredom. It went from a very long queue line when it was new, in spite of it being a people eater, to a walk on before it was replaced with Mission: Space. Horizon had its day and eventually had a limited repeatability factor. I liked the concept but did think that it was time for a change. As much as I liked Horizon, I enjoyed Mission: Space even more.

New article from OBJ:

The work underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to transform the closed MuppetVision 3D theater into a new attraction looks to be a $22.4 million investment.

That is, according to records Orlando Business Journal received from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District — the governing body that oversees Walt Disney World’s land.

The district responded Jan. 9 to a public records request from OBJ after it was discovered in December that permits were filed for work on this site. The records reveal the investment includes work such as interior demolition and installation of structural and architectural elements.

MuppetVision 3D — debuting May 16, 1991, at Hollywood Studios — was a roughly 15-minute show inside a theater that featured musical numbers, animatronics and puppetry.

The attraction, along with nearby restaurants and gift shops, all closed in summer 2025 to make way for a new land themed after the Pixar film “Monsters, Inc.” However, Limited details have been shared about the replacement, aside from it still being a theater show.

$22.4 million is a lot for a show no one is talking about. Maybe there will be animatronics? Hoping for the best here.
