Does anyone else think Galaxy’s Edge is a misfire?

In the Parks
No
It still would have sucked unless you thought Launch Bay was great because you could meet Darth Vader.
When most people think of Star Wars, they picture characters like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, R2D2, and C3PO. Not Kylo Ren, Rey Skywalker, Finn, or any of those other forgettable characters from the sequel trilogy.

I personally don’t hate Galaxy’s Edge but I do agree that it would have made more sense to theme the land around the established parts of the universe instead of the stuff was wasn’t even out yet when work on the land started and they had no way of knowing the fan reaction to. The notion that “everyone will love it because it’s Star Wars” lead to a lot of things the company did being less than they could have been.

And this is exactly why it still would have sucked. You’re just listing characters. That’s a meet and greet complex, not a land.

According to your logic, a land themed around the original trilogy will "suck" because it will only have character meet-and-greets and literally nothing else. Now I'm convinced you've never watched A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. 🤣

I think the commander is just saying that the era of Star Wars that has all those characters as the leads probably would have been a better bet than to theme it around the sequels.
Everyone says that and then whines about not being able to meet Darth Vader. Outside the two ships, there’s not much that actually connects the visual of the land to the sequel trilogy. The problem isn’t the lack of blank beige walls, the problem is that Star Wars is about characters and not places. Part of why Star Tours works so well is because the locations are so superficial, you can just dip in and out and you’ve seen them.

This is correct.

I've said before that Naboo and Coruscant are the only two locations from any of the 9 films that would both allow for a visually interesting theme park land and make sense as a land (i.e., be able to have shops, dining, etc. -- couldn't do that on Endor, e.g.) . Naboo is doable -- although it's really just kind of a mishmash of Byzantine/Baroque/Rococo styles -- but that's a prequel setting. I don't think there's a way to pull off Coruscant.

People clamor for Tatooine, but Tatooine would be as bland as (if not more bland than) Batuu.

And this isn't a defense of Galaxy's Edge, because I think they missed the mark there in multiple ways (at least some of which are fixable if they choose to do so). I just don't think there was anything wrong with the idea of a new setting.

The other idea, and probably the better one, would have been to avoid any kind of immersive setting at all. Just build a Star Wars area with dining, shops, and attractions that don't have to fit into one specific location.

Almost crazy enough to be exactly what a large, fanatic, middle aged with tons of cash to burn fandom would have gobbled right up?

But the WDI miniland with limited things to do works just as good…I’m sure 🙄

100%. SWGE is lifeless. That is the problem.
