I do have a membership with BJ's Warehouse (Costco's younger Brother by one year) but I only do it to buy a few things a year that I use a lot of and it is cheaper plus I save about 40 cents per gallon on gas.
You'd be surprised how many people have no idea what BJ's is. I have had a membership for almost 4 years but haven't entered the store in 2. We have it for the gas and propane. As of last summer a refill was $14 for a tank.

We have BJ's and Sam's memberships both entered twice in the past month. I track both their sales and digital coupons, both have gluten free flour, BJ's has veggie burgers. I usually order flour from Sam's when they have a sale in a large enough quantity to get free shipping

I have a Costco membership that work pays for.

We have had Sams for quite a few years now, and just took a trial membership to BJ's. They took over the space that had been K-Mart (and was Caldor before that). My MIL had BJ's for years and got a lot of use from it.

Of all of them, I prefer Costco.

As I've mentioned, my dad just turned 94 and is in an assisted living after a spinal cord injury nearly two years ago. He has suddenly started to have trouble remembering whether my brother is still alive.

Very saddening to have him ask if Ed is still with us, and when I said no, he says, I thought so, because I haven't seen him in a while, and I know if he was here he would come to visit me. (My brother died in 2015)

Proof that the saying "old age is not for the weak" is true.

That’s so sad. I’m so sorry.

I’m reminded of the beautiful song Glen Campbell wrote when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s - I’m not Gonna Miss You.

The memory loss hurts the family and the friends so much more than it does the patient. Eventually your dad won’t remember that he doesn’t remember.

That’s often a blessing.

It doesn't really surprise me. Until I moved to NC from Vermont, I had never heard of it either. I like it so much more than Costco. They have a better variety and take coupons (or at least they did, I haven't used coupons in years). The only thing that they don't have anymore around here is the food court with the famous hot dogs. They did about 10 years ago but it wasn't even close to as good. Can't have everything, I guess.

I don't really like going to stores, but refuse to order and pickup. I have found that the more I age, moving and walking helps me continue to keep moving and walking. Shopping not only helps with that but it also allows me to pick out the items I want. I don't understand why anyone would want someone else to do that.

I miss the days where I got membership for free but every time I shop there, only one or two cashier's.

Only BJ's in RI. No Costco and the only Sam's Club left decades ago and is now a wicked crowded and huge Market Basket.

The only thing about Market Basket that's good is cheaper prices and no self checkout but enough cashiers to handle the crowd and not have lines backed up.

I'm so sorry. It's rough to see that happening. My MIL couldn't remember which of her siblings had passed, either. She just had no short term memory left.

It's true that old age comes with a sometimes overwhelming number of physical and mental challenges. So that phrase is correct. However, I think that it is particularly tough on the family. It's one thing to cope with problems directly, it is another thing to just have to helplessly watch it happen. The family has to be stronger than older people in many ways.

Whew, it's dangerous outside!! It rained Thursday and all the snow melted, but then it snowed Friday afternoon/Saturday and so we had a good inch of fresh powder. Yesterday the temps got down to about -15C, so everything was quite frozen, but because we had gotten so much snow last week, a lot of cities used up their salt supplies, so they couldn't salt the roads and bike paths after this last batch of snow. Yesterday the high was -5, but today the high is 5, and it was already above zero at 8 this morning, so a lot of that snow has turned to slush and it's slick as snot out there. They cleared the main street, but not the bike paths and not the residential areas, so it was really slick. I had to walk my bike most of the way home from the doctors office because it was so slippery that there's no way to safely step off the bike. I didn't want to slip and slide into the street and get hit by a car, so I just walked most of the way.
