I loved Tom Sawyer island, my sons and I always went over on every trip. But at some point you have to realize how poorly used that space was. I am not giving Disney a free pass, but I am excited to see if they can do this well
If I can just clarify for a moment-the correct term that certain people use here is "underutilized space." Thank you for your attention to this matter. 😉😄

I am sure this new cars ride will sell a lot of LLs..

By the time it opens in a few years, I wonder how much LLs will cost?

Yes its all about the US dollar losing value and not that Disney wants to make more money ;) 🤣

Of course not.

If you look at what Disneyland did for the 50th and compare, it is an epic failure.....and yeah, I know the pandemic, but the fact is the plans were never even close to what was done for Disneylands 50th... It started out as lackluster and then fizzled out... Sadly they acted on the "Repaint the WDW Castle an inappropriate color" plan. I really wish we had gotten the Main Street Magical windows they did for Disneyland....Our animated window displays at this point are so old...it would have been an amazing addition... among so many other things....

I still believe the biggest Mickey commemoration (to date) was the 60th. 50 was big, but I still think 60 was made a bigger deal than 50 in several different ways. So maybe WDW can "make up for things" 5 years from now for their 60th? 🤷‍♀️

I could see them having the opening of Villainsland as part of the 60th.
I think the 60th should include:
  • New parade themed centered around the history of Magic Kingdom- start with a float with classic Disney characters, then a float for Country Bears, then Liberty Square, etc etc until the last float has your obligatory modern stuff like Moana and Encanto lol
  • New fireworks show also themed around nostalgia and history- include park original songs from over the years, like “Bear Band Serenade”, “Grim Grinning Ghosts”, “Special Spice”, etc
  • Refresh of the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, adding new songs to the set list and a randomization feature that makes each show unique like Star Tours. Maybe they could even bring back the original show for a nostalgia night event
  • MOVE THE HATBOX GHOST TO THE ATTIC and also add the new Ghost Bride lol
  • Remove Jack Sparrow from Pirates and restore the original ending scene. Also touch up the queue, fix the chess scene which has been broken for awhile, etc etc
  • (On that previous note, does anyone know why classic Disney queues are so dark? I swear with Pirates every time I go in the queue from outside I feel like I’m gonna fall over cause it’s so dark and my eyes haven’t adjusted from the Florida sun lol)
  • New show inside the Diamond Horseshoe, maybe a new Revue or something
  • Bring back live entertainment like the fife and drum band, citizens of Main Street, etc
  • Retrack of Space Mountain- make it one track instead of two that has longer trains- 24 riders per train like Paris instead of 6 per train currently
  • Redo of the Small World facade- bring back the glowing fountains and unique color palette, also nicen up the facade
  • enhancements to the Tiki Room like new lighting, wind effects for the storm scene, new speakers, restoring the fountain, etc etc. OR a new show with the same birds, just some new songs and stuff cause IP is inevitable. Maybe bring over Stitch from Tokyo since that Tiki Room is closing?
  • Use the Fire Mountain plot for something like a Moana ride with the Shanghai Pirates system
  • Attach a resort hotel to the Magic Kingdom, either adjacent to the Fire Mountain plot or further back behind Villains? Might screw up the monorail loop though
  • Tons of new merchandise celebrating Magic Kingdom’s history, including defunct attractions like 20,000 Leagues, Mr. Toad’s, Snow Whites Scary Adventures, etc. Also new merch for surviving classics like the Country Bears (maybe merch of the various shows?), Orange Bird, Peter Pan’s Flight, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, etc
  • Nostalgia Night events after hours like the Disneyland ones, have special meet and greets for John and Sarah Progress, Captain Nemo, Henry and Teddi Barra, etc etc, maybe special shows and performances
  • Controversially: maybe add some enhancements to Peter Pan’s flight to modernize it a bit- some fiber optic pixie dust, new lightning and paint jobs; etc. don’t need to rebuild it or replace the classic animatronics but just enhance the sets and design like Disneyland did
  • Could extend the celebration to the other parks since it’s the resorts anniversary as a whole- maybe just new merch and other minor things
Maybe this is as underwhelming as the 50th but I would be happy with all of this lol

you lost me at the Space Mountain switching to one track and longer trains... If they did that, the ride would ultimately feel shorter because of the train size the radius of every turn and twist would have to be broader... Just reproduce the new track basically matching the old with maybe some more banking on the curves... Our layout is completely unique...I would love it to stay with better effects and on-board sound...and finally put in a new Post show with speedramp... Something engaging and fun...Something that feels like an attraction itself....like the original exit show scenes were....

Good ideas, I forgot about on ride effects and audio and all that!

Disneyland's 50th was well before TDC went money mad. On top of that the last big thing they did for the 25th was criticized to death and still is 20 years later. Can you tell me what incentive we have given them to go crazy and spend like there is no tomorrow? Especially if all they are going to hear is how awful it was, they might as well not do anything and have complaints about for that instead. It costs the company a lot less that way with the same result.

The Happiest Homecoming on Earth wasn’t actually all that extensive. A new parade and fireworks. A new C-Ticket in an abandoned space. An already planned rebuild’s schedule adjusted and a lot of gold paint. The biggest thing was that the place didn’t look run down and was being run by people genuinely excited to have the job.

What Ouimet and Emmer managed to do for DL’s 50th, on a budget far less than they wanted (IIRC), was amazing.

I think I remember posting something about that years ago. I spent most of a week in Disneyland during the 50th and even though some things were real nice there were a lot of flaws as well. I wasn't looking for any but they found me. The two I remember most were huge. The first was the stairs leading up to the train station at the head of Main Street had a huge chunk of concrete and brick broken out. That's the same staircase where the picture of Walt is standing looking over his kingdom. It even had yellow caution tape around it. It was like that all week. The second was as the boat on Small world was ending its outdoor circle and headed to the inside had a very large hole in one of the external fake walls right along side of the boat canal. I don't know if that lasted long because I only went on it once but there was no one around it at the time. I really don't have a clue as to how that happened. It wasn't like a panel missing it was an obvious broken section of the wall.

Other than that I guess it was fine. I was there the day that the original Mouseketeers where there for a meet and greet. It must have been in September because the day after I got there the HM opened the Christmas overlay. I was really disappointed because I have never been a fan of the Nightmare before Christmas franchise and I really wanted to see how Disneyland HM differed from WDW. I also remember how hot it was. I think one of the days it was over 100. They had a lot of metal queue stanchions there and you couldn't touch them they were so hot.

I overheard some of the staff at the hotel I stayed at talking about impending doom. It was just after Katrina in 2005. Parts of California were still on fire and the temperature was out of the norm hot for Anaheim so their theory was that when you combine the hurricane, the heat wave and the wild fires that the big one (earthquake wise) couldn't be far behind. They might have been saying that to scare the tourists. Didn't scare me but you will notice that I never forgot it some 20 years later.:)

the Snow White clip in Spaceship Earth, etc.).
In retrospect it is actually quite interesting that they decided to remove said clip for the 2007 incarnation especially in the wake of the "Story Light" version that was supposed to happen in 2020 but scrapped due to covid and I hope stays scrapped when hopefully the next incarnation of SSE which I pray to god will be an improvement inevitably comes.

I think the major reason for that was plans for the DL 50th was largely Matt Ouimet's brainchild working under Michael Eisner. I believe WDW's 50th was conceived around the time a certain failed "CEO" was still running the parks division. The late Harmonious being the most obvious calling card there.

I think the DL 50th was a better overall quality promotion. The 60th felt a bit more overhyped than it probably should have been. The 70th seems like an afterthought according to what I have heard.
