Trip Report And Thanksgiving makes three!!!

DAY 1 DISNEYLAND THANKSGIVING DAY

HI all!
This is pretty late by my usual trip reporting standards but I decided if I wanted to share this trip before my next one in 2 weeks I had better get reporting!
I decided to take a short plane ride south to the original park for another overnighter, so three trips to some Disney park in 2025!

Who-just me.
When-Thanksgiving and the following day.
Resort-Pixar Place club level. (Club level not by choice just minimal availablity on short notice again.)

And before I go any further I would like to offer a Disney travel hack that you may or may not be aware of. It was only a few weeks ahead of my trip that I tried booking for Thanksgiving day. Zip, nada was available at any of the 3 onsite resorts. But I got to thinking, I have to buy tickets anyway let me call the Disney travel agency. And low and behold they did have rooms and tickets as a package. So I had 2 choices, the Pixar club room or a regular room at the Grand for the same price. I thought club would be fun.
For several reasons it was a dumb idea. I was there such a short period of time I only got breakfast the morning of check out (oh and a free mini bottle of water from the gym, don't ask.)
And I ended up with a LOT more walking than I would have if I had just taken the regular room at the Grand Californian. 21,000 steps on the first day not starting till 11 am.
Ok, back to the report.

Even though I have my million or so photos I am going to try to make this a short trip report since I will be headed east soon, but since I do like to gab both in person and with a key board I may not stick to that.

I arranged for a direct flight to get to Anaheim with southwest via the John Wayne airport again. It is pretty painless to fly in and out of.
I was at the Sacramento Airport before 7am and landing a little after 10am and walking into the doors of the hotel at 10:50 am.

I assume, not sure, that the red yellow and blue ball tree things are only out for Christmas but I'm not sure.
IMG_4608.JPG

I checked in at the front and they took me upstairs to the club level check in area. Because I was in a hurry to get to the parks with such a short stay I didn't use the club amenities this day. Also as expected the room wasn't ready and despite taking you up there, they won't hold your luggage there and I had to go back down to bell services and give them my luggage (which was only a backpack.)

Shoutout to all of the staff there, front desk. club staff and bell services, all very nice and helpful.

The hotel is directly opposite the entrance to the Grand Californian but they have a riffraff entrance for people walking across from Pixar or the Disneyland hotel. You literally can't walk up the drive and go through the main entrance and walk through to Downtown Disney and enter Disneyland. There is a back entrance to California adventure but my park reservation was for Disneyland not Calif. Adventure and while they were nice wouldn't let me in. So I had to go back around and basically sneak in the gate when some man walking ahead of me knew the drill and just snuck in when someone came out and I zipped in with him!

Once in I pretended to not be riffraff and strolled through the main lobby and got to see the gingerbread house.

This cute display was in Downtown Disney walking to the park entrance.
IMG_4611.JPG

These were the crowds at the entrance at 11:40 am!!!
Prior to coming here I hemmed and hawed about whether to just use LLMP that came with my tickets or splurge since it was just me on PP and a very short stay.
I was glad I did buy it when I saw this sea of humanity, but I was in for a few annoying shockers because I did not do my research well enough prior to purchasing. (Story to follow.)

I swam like a fish going the wrong way but am finally here!
And I will say if I am going to continue these solo trips I really need to up my selfie game!
IMG_4614.JPG

I saw this on the way in, loved it, but it was in an interesting area with heavy foot traffic under the train station.

DISNEYLAND/DCA-LAST DAY

I saunterd down to Flo's where I have been wanting to eat forever!
The line was pretty long and I should have mobile ordered, but I will say while I was in line I looked at the mobile order app but the arrival times were pretty long too.

Eventually I got my food and found a window seat to watch the humans go by.
I got a classic diner meal of "cheesburger, fries and a coke, please!" Yum!
(No onions please was ignored, but easy enough to pull off!)
And oh baby do I hate paper straws. Just thinking about that wet paper in my mouth gives me the willies!

It was fun to people watch from the table.

A little aside. Gary always wanted to drive route 66 and we never "got round to it."
So the summer of 2024 when I drove cross country after I sold my house in Pittsburgh to move to California, I put Gary's ashes on the front seat of my car, in a travel bag with a Barq's rootbeer, his travel drink of choice, (and a Modelo for nights) and detoured south to see some of route 66.
I stumbled upon a route 66 museum that he would have loved and I bought a route 66 pin and a map of the route there for him. 😢

Anyway, he did get to see this route 66 when we came here in 2016. 😊

By the time of these photos this man had had multiple kidney stones, a diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer and 2 knees replaced the year prior.
He adored all things Tarzan and he climbed the Tarzan tree house and had me take a photo of him that he sent to his surgeon saying thanks for my Dizknees!🤣
You couldn't stop this guy.

Anyway, back to 2025.
After my nutritious lunch I had a LL for Monsters so I headed out of cars land.
IMG_4818.JPG

I was able to get a photo of this in the day time in between photo pass people. So cool!
IMG_4819.JPG

I passed a DVC kiosik and they had this wonderful Mickey statue and the CM took my photo for me.
IMG_4820.JPG

Another super cool thing DL/DCA has that WDW needs to get a clue about is such a simple idea.
If you are too cheap to buy tables and chairs how about some little clip on tables by your food booths that you can at least put your food and drink on?!?
At first I thought they were some weird baby changing tables then I realized what they were, genius!
I saw a higher up type CM there as I was walking by and had to tell them I thought it was a fantastic idea!
It's the little things.
IMG_4826.JPG

There were some cute window displays on the way to Monsters.
IMG_4830.JPG

Monsters was a little hike up the street. I had never ridden this before and was looking forward to it.
And after Monsters I found the second holy grail/influenced item I had been searching for!

Such a sweet story!!🥰
What a lovely story ❤️ about route 66.
That's awesome that you were able to finally drive part of Route 66.
I love that for Gary. ♥️
It's so sweet to see Gary's face, and I'm sure he enjoyed his trip on Route 66!

Love this!! ❤️❤️
Thank you all, he was truly a sweet (occasionally salty 🤣) kind of guy who had many loves, old cars, old things, knives, most people, and oh he was a rabid Steeler fan!

He had a very good friend from highschool that he remained friends with all of his life. They were rebel rousing poor country boys in their youth. His friend died within a year of Gary. His wife and I have both said we hope they are up there somewhere, having a beer, working on a car and then sitting down and watching the Steeler game. 😊

Thanks for all of you kind comments and now back to DISNEYLAND-LAST DAY!

I made it to the monsters ride and it was cute.

IMG_4834.JPG

Always watching....
IMG_4837.JPG

And then, drum roll, and again sorry to @ajrwdwgirl and @TheMouseFan but right outside of monsters was a popcorn cart and it had this!!!!!!
IMG_4842.JPG

I was so excited to find this popcorn bucket too!
This is how they got displayed at home this year. I thought they looked cute under my tree with some of my other popcorn buckets.
I collect the Mickey head ornaments and try to get one for each year.
IMG_5369.JPG

But, back at Disney, as I was carrying my new prize possession down the ramp towards Toy Story the strap broke and my bucket crashed to the ground. Oh I was so upset! But, crazy enough a CM was walking towards me and saw it happen and told me to turn around and pointed to another popcorn cart and he told me they would replace this one.
I walked back and the 2 women working there were so nice, they told me to take my time and let me pick over the buckets they had, to check for scratches etc. And they gave me a bag for the new one so I wasn't swinging it around by the strap.
IMG_4844.JPG

With my new bucket in hand (bag) I had a LL for Toy Story and headed there.
IMG_4845.JPG

IMG_4849.JPG

And as I was walking back up the ramp I spied my 3rd and final snack!
The CM told me to wait a minute or two to bite into it as they were frozen solid. I of course didn't listen and almost broke a tooth as well as my popcorn bucket!
It was delicious.
IMG_4855.JPG

A kind lady took my picture for me in front of the fun wheel, which I will confess I have never been on (and am not sure I ever will!)
IMG_4857.JPG

After that I headed back out of the wharf area towards the park exit in search of this trips Mickey ornament and the 70th travel package pin.

Lucky girl with those popcorn buckets. They sure are cute and make nice decorations.
Having them under the tree is a great idea!!
I really like them. They sell as popcorn buckets, but we know Disney charges by the inch for their decor, so I feel they are a cheaper alternative to other decorative items.
I love those popcorn buckets! My husband does not...he finds them hard to pack LOL
I totally agree with him! They are hard to get home and do take up a lot of space, both when they are displayed and when in storage bins.
That's the popcorn bucket I wanted last year that was only available at MVMCP until right after we left Florida! I am so jealous you got both!
I don't know if you read my birthday trip report last year on how I acquired the Elf Mickey, but we were at MK in the cross over time of when we had to be heading out and the party people were being let in and they had brought out the elf buckets and were selling them to whoever got in line (from what I could see.)

DISNEYLAND-LAST DAY, LAST POST!

I headed to the front of DCA as there were several shops there.
On the way I stopped to take a photo here. I took one for a couple and they took mine.
IMG_4865.JPG

The tree at DCA.
IMG_4866.JPG

I found the store I needed for the pin pick up and as there was Christmas decor there I shopped around a little first.
It was Julius Katz & Sons.

I found this green ornament with lights on it that I had been been looking for, but took a minute to look on line at Disney shops and it was cheaper with a discount and I can't remember why, but free shipping. So I waited till I got home and ordered it on line. (The only problem with that is you don't get to pick the one you want, if there is a messy paint job, the placement isn't ideal or scratches, it's annoying.)
It's funny because I love when Seth finds me stuff because he is just as picky as me and tells me, "I got you the best one Mom"!

IMG_4867.JPG

What I did buy there was this really pretty white one that you can see into and it has a light inside.
With only a backpack for the trip I needed to get clever on how I was going to get that, my 2 popcorn buckets and this ornament home.
So against the advice of the nice CM who sold it to me, I wrapped it carefully with tissue he gave me and it travelled home in the gingerbread house!
He was hilarious, he wanted no part in this experiment.
It made it!
IMG_4882.JPG

After that I wandered out of the park and tried to talk myself into walking over to Disneyland to use the LL I had made for It's a Small World. I have no idea what possesed me to make it because when I did I was at Toy Story which was the farthest distance from small world as possible!
I ended up just sitting on a sidewall in Downtown Disney and people watched for a few minutes then used the GC exit into their lobby.

One thing I remember from our 2016 visit were the amazing front doors of the Grand Californian. My resort pin from that stay is pretend stained glass of the doors, so pretty.

I waited for quite a few minutes to get this photo with quite a few others partially closed as I waited to catch them closed and no one triggering them to open.
The CM working outside saw what I was attempting to do and he actually asked someone to wait a minute so I could get the picture with them fully closed! They were nice about it.

IMG_4873.JPG

After that I walked back over to my hotel and got a few more decor photos.

IMG_4877.JPG

I went and got my items from bell services and as I had some extra time before my transport arrived, I packed up the 2 popcorn buckets.
Initially the bag was very large and I was trying to figure out how to get it under my seat. So I went into the lobby store and the CM there helped me put a large amount of wide tape around the bag that both stabilized the buckets and made the whole thing look smaller. I didn't want SW to give me a hard time when I was boarding about size, etc.

I forgot this photo from when I checked in. It was part of my loot from the trip. These were in the hotel rooms to take home. (At least I assume they were to be taken home!) 🤣
IMG_E4894.JPG

While I was sitting waiting for my ride a side door right beside me opened and Bing Bong from Inside Out came out an was being silly with me but I wasn't quick enough to grab a photo. I don't know if he just wanders around or does a character meet and greet in the hotel.

My driver arrived on time, I ran into no problems at the airport and was back to Sac in a few hours.

I wanted to finish up this mini TR because by next week this time I will be back to my real "home" at WDW!
I am meeting Seth there, and a planned meet up with a few friends from the Burgh!!!
TTFN!!!

Thanks for sharing! Very impressed that you were able to get all your stuff in a backpack. I am usually regretting my purchases at DLP because I most often travel by train with a small (fits under an airplane sit) rolling bag. Luckily on the way home it is mostly up escalators where I change trains and when I get to my final destination there are ramps instead of stairs going down.
