Hanging guy with axe just looks like he cut himself down from his noose.

I concede the point about stretching room lady. But like all things it’s a matter of degrees. One illustrated joke in the stretching room is not the same as a whole serial killer plot line taking up the attic, peppered with a bunch of puns about murder coming from the bride.

But again like I say, I concede the point and stand corrected.

I don't care for the murderous bride gag either quite frankly...it is all too obvious and literal. I preferred the story-less bride in the attic....I think you can have a haunt attraction without references to serial killers and gore...something the mansion always did very well... The hanging corpse and vague portraits are fine...but no more Constance hatchaway type obvious stories....

you can make a "triggered" argument to remove just about every ride and attraction in the park... They need to leave legacy attractions alone. If you are easily triggered stay home or go to Legoland....but no doubt there will be something to trigger you there too..... It is amazing to me that the language and violence on TV seems to trigger no one, but the 50+ year old Pirates ride needs to be reworked because they have a silly auction scene...and well, they are pirates.....
THANK YOU! Add video games to your TV comment also. There are probably people triggered by flying over London on Peter Pan because their great grandfather was killed during a WWII bombing.

Anybody else thinking HM is about to go down for a pretty lengthy refurb? BTMR just got a full redo and is currently getting some surrounding infrastructure work to prepare the area for the new guest walkways and expansion. Doesn't seem like HM queue can exist in its current form when the new pathways open on that side of Piston Peak.

Got to ride this on NYE last week and the graveyard scene wasn't looking great. Lots of lighting either out or purposefully dimmed to hide some of the figures / gags. Wouldn't mind some upgrades in there.

I would be much more upset if they changed that than the changes they made to pirates. If you are triggered by that then don't go into a ride that is called "The Haunted Mansion."

So you (in the general sense) aren't triggered by riding through a graveyard while ghosts sing but you are triggered by a dimly lit hanging corpse?
To be clear I do not want the ride to change and think such a change would ultimately be unnecessary.

But yes I could see how someone could be more bothered by a depiction of suicide than by singing ghosts.

The trigger is not death and the paranormal, it is that some people who’ve dealt with depression or attempted to take their own life can sometimes struggle with seeing depictions of it as it places that thought back in their heads. The hanging itself is the trigger, not the discussion or depiction of death. For someone with those struggles who does not know it is in there, I could understand how that could be tough.

Again, I don’t think the ride needs to change. Rather I think a simple sign out front that states some of the content inside the ride may be uncomfortable for some guests (and highlight this scene in particular so that guests can look away if they still want to ride) would be plenty.

There’s ways to accommodate individual guest needs with the Mansion that don’t involve changing it.

The Pirates situation I feel was a little different. That was less about triggering and more about a broader cultural movement Disney was responding to. It didn’t happen in a bubble. Given that context I think they made the right call.

I have struggled with depression for 25 years and have had suicidal ideation many times. I literally barely escaped one attempt. The Ghost Host hanging seen is never in my thoughts while having these problems.

OK, but that’s you. Your experiences are not representative of the millions of people around the world who struggle with those things as well. as someone who has struggled with those things such as yourself, and myself as well, I would hope you would understand that there is no universal experience with it, and that everybody handles it differently.

For example, one of my best friends survived a suicide attempt cannot stand to see it depicted in movies or read about it in books or anything like that so he cannot ride the haunted mansion or if he does he has to look away.

I do not want the ride to be changed and I don’t think it needs to. I think it would be a perfect solution to just put a little sign out front that gives people a heads up.

Nope. I see zero correlation to an outdoor roller coaster. Might the queue need reworked, yes. Not a reason in itself to close a ride.

They could remove the graveyard queue, if needed, without closing the ride. The ride ran for decades without it. Perhaps it could be rebuilt later with a less in-your-face approach. I’m not inherently against walking past tombstones with clever epitaphs and a few subtle, unnerving effects (like Leota’s face), but the current effects cheapen the experience, slow the line, and promote spread of disease.

I’ve not personally heard of any extended downtime for Mansion, though there certainly are extended refurbishments in the works elsewhere at MK. Animated figures requiring maintenance in January, after months of late hours at MK, is not unusual. I presume they can get things fixed in the coming weeks. Mansion is usually a maintenance priority when they have the time.

For what it's worth, research doesn’t support the effectiveness of trigger warnings. And they might actually increase stress rather than mitigate it. (This is a good summary from Psychology Today in case folks don't want to read multiple journal articles lol)

Disney will do what they think is best so maybe the scene changes. Or maybe not.

Do we think this work is to remove the hanging scene in the stretching room?

This is going to sound strange, but my first few visits to this attraction I NEVER LOOKED UP, I had no idea the hanging scene was there, I could never see things good in dark rides when entering from bright sunlight.

When I enter a dark ride at night, it was like “night and day” 😉 for me, when entering at night, I could see everything.

As has been mentioned in this thread - No. Exterior refurbishments not impacting the ride at all.

Hopefully, they can refresh it and then turn to the Hollywood Tower. Back in the day, we kept the place shimmering but things have fallen since then. It’s sad to see standards drop and guest satisfaction plummet but I simply couldn’t keep everything elevated forever.
