The interactive queue also has the same practical problems that most interactive queues have, name, people stopping to interact creating gaps in the line.

The other problem is specific to HM, namely, not loading guests into the parlor for a full experience before moving them into the stretching room. This creates a continuously moving queue. And that leads to exacerbating the problem in the first paragraph above.
I do think the interactive queues were likely designed to distract people from the fact that Fastpass+ and now Lightning Lane artificially inflate the numbers of guests in the standby line.

That and to try to make how much slower the line moves seem a little less obvious.

That seems to be the biggest issue to me with standby lines. Not just the increased wait time but the increased wait time not moving and doing nothing. It's incredibly tedious, especially in places like Test Track where things that would be interesting to look at while walking by become things you end up stuck in front of.

Thankfully, I do believe the era of everything being interactive at Disney is over especially seeing as how ultimately NextGen turned out to be nothing but a money-sucking hole and the remaining examples of interactivity such as the god-awful ending of SSE 07 have aged horribly.

Seems likely -- suggesting people take the Ghost Host's "way out" is just too triggering for much of today's population.
I would be much more upset if they changed that than the changes they made to pirates. If you are triggered by that then don't go into a ride that is called "The Haunted Mansion."

So you (in the general sense) aren't triggered by riding through a graveyard while ghosts sing but you are triggered by a dimly lit hanging corpse?

To be fair, it can be triggering to someone who has lost a loved one to suicide, but I would still not recommend removing it. Also, the idea that it was OK for the Bride to be an axe murderer 20 years ago but is not okay now is ridiculous on its face, especially when you factor in that the Ghost Host figure is still there.

tbh it wasn't until well into adulthood that I realized what I was looking at. Always had trouble even "making anything out" beforehand, as it was just a moment for the reveal anyway, I'm short, and my vision was never great to begin with 🤷‍♀️

Eh, in my opinion the axe murdering bride wasn't okay 20 years ago.

you can make a "triggered" argument to remove just about every ride and attraction in the park... They need to leave legacy attractions alone. If you are easily triggered stay home or go to Legoland....but no doubt there will be something to trigger you there too..... It is amazing to me that the language and violence on TV seems to trigger no one, but the 50+ year old Pirates ride needs to be reworked because they have a silly auction scene...and well, they are pirates.....

I think the original mansion alread had the hanging corpse and framed pitcures one of which was a guy with an axe....along with the stretching portrait of the lady sitting on the tombstone with the head with an axe in it....so those things were always there.....
