News Coco Boat Ride Coming to Disney California Adventure

I feel they will absolutely make the current ride COCO, only question is do they replicate the DCA ride, or just do a smaller coco ride with the only shared quality being RND and the aa's. but feel coco will be like buzz or Peter Pan where it is in a lot of the resorts but the length and theming varies

I do hope that if they don’t keep it exclusive within the US - it’s at least a differentiated experience dealing with the same IP like we’ve seen for Avatar and Cars.

I certainly don’t think the development of Encanto means Disney has met some kind of quota for Latin American IP in each resort…

The temptation to clone is always there and it does seem like a natural fit for Mexico. It looks like there’s some additional backstage space that could be utilized if they wanted to expand the building.

I just hope they do enough to differentiate any shared IP experiences for our domestic parks

I believe DCA Coco attraction would be exclusive but to bring it another park in another shape or form is possible like what is Disney is doing with Cars.

I agree^, I still think Cars will go to Paris's Disney Adventure World. Along with Avatar there and one of the asian parks eventually. For coco though I do feel a coco ride will go to EPCOT, Paris, and maybe Abu Dhabi or Hong Kong. And while they could be different they'll still use the same AA's and other content

Not to go off on a tangent, but I think Abu Dhabi will have the most curated selection of IP given cultural sensitivities. Not sure if or where Coco plays into this, but that's the first time my eyebrow raised since it just seems like an odd fit for that region in general.

Hong Kong on the other hand, given they seem to love the fantastical with Mystic Manor, makes Coco a very friendly fit.

Coco is incredibly popular in China. I could easily see Coco coming to Shanghai.

I would not be shocked to see them plop this down into Disney Adventure World at some point actually. In a lot of ways that's DCA's sister park, and I expect that relationship to continue since they're sort of undertaking similar goals with each.

Both parks took similar aim of being with underwhelming goals.
DCA is a underwhelming take of Epcot but with California. Add on with a weak studio theme land. Too much emphasis of dining and shopping. Still is.

Walt Disney Studios is a very underwhelming studios theme park evolving with a weaker bland theme. With an uninspiring bland name.
Yeah, they're both runts that were aiming to ape an idea done better elsewhere. That's why I consider these the real sisters rather than DCA being EPCOT's sister or DAW being DHS' sister.

That said, I think DCA is generally speaking in much better shape and will continue to be as Coco and Avatar move in. DAW is on a positive upward trend, but there's still work to be done after Frozen and Lion King in m opinion. I hope they don't plan to stop there.

Yeah Shanghai is the most likely park to get it. They also don't have a classic Pirates attraction so Coco would fill that missing piece for them. Hong Kong doesn't have any Pirates either right?
Would Shanghai and Hong Kong both get it?

Perhaps the Piston Peak Land? It doesn't seem like they plan to clone DCA Cars.

Shanghai has both Pirates and Voyage to the Crystal Grotto as boat attractions. Hong Kong, on the other hand, is lacking in the boat department besides Jungle Cruise which has always felt separate.

I do think they try to keep the two parks as unique as possible given the audience overlap, in addition to exclusivity clauses that exist particularly at HKDL.

Hong Kong has Frozen now. If I had to bet I’d say it’ll probably just be at DL and Epcot in the end and none of the international parks get Coco.

Frozen Ever After is the closest thing that Hong Kong Disneyland has to Pirates of the Caribbean. Being a boat ride with drops.

I mean, Shanghai Pirates is still a Pirates attraction. It's still a boat ride.

While a boat ride is always welcome, I would hardly call Frozen a missing piece of the puzzle simply because it's a boat ride with drops. As said, their Pirates already is that, even with the fancy pants technology involved.

Whoa this is wild prediction. Coco broke records for Pixar in China at the time of release.

I wasn’t aware of this. Guess “in the end” was a bad choice of words. Didn’t mean to imply forever. More like the foreseeable future. Where do you put a Coco ride at any of those parks? Domestically they fit neatly into Pixar Pier and Mexico and also seem to make more sense due to the popularity of the IP and demographics in this country. I guess if it’s as popular as you say in China, Shanghai or HK are possibilities but is it popular enough to shoehorn into an area 10 + years later or create a whole land for it? That’s another story and why I would bet against it. I’d imagine other hotter IP will take priority the more time that goes by.

Not that I think it'll happen as I think it should be exclusive to DCA, but there are places for it if they choose to put it in either Chinese Park. In HK they are building a new Pixar area between TS and Frozen so could put it there if they wanted, they can also expand if needed like Anaheim into their backstage. In Shanghai its a bit more difficult due to being surrounded by an industrial park, but they also have places to expand backstage if needed, so just like in DCA they could build a mini-land somewhere.

I guess if there’s a will there’s a way but again I wouldn’t bet on it although the Pixar area you mentioned improves its chances.
