I'm just surprised they would take down a headliner like Incredicoaster during the holiday season. Just wait a couple days already.

Yeah you’d think they could just wait a couple days since the holidays end 1/7 at DLR. You can kind of give them a pass on Grizzly River Run but they should have just held off on Incredicoaster if possible. The expectations are that headliners will be available during the holidays.

Could have to do with fiscal quarters.

I just went over the last 10+ years of the ending dates for the Holidays as I always thought it was a Sunday.. then Mondays start the refurbishment season . Without posting each date and day of the week it falls on last 10+ it looks like when the 1st falls in the middle of the week the season has ended during the week as well. Still majority of the time it ends on Sunday. Last year it ended on Monday Jan 6th.

Smells like a panicky reaction to a recently discovered safety issue. Just guessing.

I saw a FB video a few weeks ago or so where he said he was told they were going to do to Incredicoaster what they did to BTMRR recently which was apparently some upgrade to the emergency stop functionality/ process or something like that. That was a while ago though. Not sure that explains why they wouldn’t just wait two more days.

Yeah I think they usually end on the Monday school starts after the holidays.
So it sort of makes sense then that the refurb starts on a Monday, and that the extra two days of the celebration is the anomaly. Especially if many of the schools around OC start back on the 5th, I'm sure some start as late as the 12th but I'm guessing the majority start back on the 5th.

My kids go back 1/12. Chrismtas break is lasting longer these days The last few years blackouts were in sync with the kids school schedule. This year I have over a week to take them to the park after the holidays and before they start school if I wanted to. I guess there is no good reason for Disney to block out passholders during the second week of January. And honestly I don’t understand why schools/ kids need that week off. I think 12/20- 1/5 is more than enough. 1/12 is crazy.

Dunno, I know most schools up in Northern CA go back on the 5th. I wonder if much of the decision comes from when Christmas/NYE falls during the week, if later in the week like this year maybe some school districts want to give an extra week for families for travel and such.

Maybe but it’s overkill. But now I’m thinking, that second week of January where the holiday break ends up like this might not be a bad week to travel. Rates might not be awful since at least half the kids are back in school. And you don’t have to pull your kids out of school for 5 + days.

My guess is that your kid's school has a large population of Mexican students.

Even where I am, from time to time we will have students go back to Mexico for winter break and it is simply a non-negotiable thing, they WILL be gone three weeks and generally not return until after Three Kings Day/Epiphany. If there are enough students and families that this will apply to, a school district will simply extend winter break another week as a concession to reality.

Not necessarily at my kids school specifically but yes a lot of Hispanic kids in Los Angeles/ LAUSD in general.

My wife taught in Anaheim, and she had a large percentage of Hispanic students. Many would disappear for months at a time and then return. Come to find out many had parents working the fields, so staying in state was pretty seasonal.
