Missed opportunity? Why Disney hasn’t rethemed Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster to Taylor Swift

Are there any references to Aerosmith on the ride itself? You could just switch out the audio on the trains and the videos on the pre/post show and you have a new artist racing from the recording studio to the concert
Aerosmith isn't even part of the LA scene... should have been Motley Crue and kickstart my heart and play Don't Go Away Mad in the exit :)

Never a possibility.. but let's do theme right :)

It is much easier for Disney in the long run to have the ride be themed to a fictional band that is unbeholden to those kinds of culture trends.

Not only isolates them from cultural trends but also isolates them from any “issues” with the band/artist. All it takes is one perceived misstep by the artist and the whole thing becomes a controversy, better to just go with fictional Muppets and simply avoid that potential.

You know what's funny?
I'm not a TS fan, but some of the comments in this thread are disgusting. An incredibly successful, philanthropic woman sure makes some of you crazy.
Late to the party...but 100% agree. While I don't want to see her take over this ride, it is hilarious that one would be worried about her relevancy down the road or hit her with such negative comments. She has cemented herself as one of the biggest artists of all time. Whether people want to admit it or not, she has already, and quite easily passed Aerosmith and is at the level of artists and performers like Prince, the Beatles, etc. for what she has accomplished and done to the industry. And I say this as well without being a fan. If you can't see this, you haven't been paying attention.

This entire debate is stupid if you really think about it.

The overwhelming majority doesn't care who or what IP is slapped on the title of this ride. They just enjoy the ride.

Don't believe me? Change the name to "The Zim-Zam-Blippity-Blam Indoor Coaster Ride Of Fun", and I guarantee you it will still have the popularity it has always known.

This was my argument with Tiana taking over Splash also, I don’t know if that’s been proven true or not but Tiana seems to always have long lines, despite most people here agreeing Splash was the better theme, so my guess is it’s true.

Sadly that also probably confirms to Disney that they can do whatever they want and most people will still line up to ride it.

Why not go all out and get Marilyn Manson, a huge Disney fan I hear and what could possibly go wrong? Imagine flying around with 'First day of a seven day binge' or 'This is the New S8+@' blaring out

This 99%. How many on here rode this the for first time or continually and wouldn't have if Aerosmith weren't connected to it? I'd never bought an Aerosmith record when I rode this even though I'd heard their music on the radio and watched them on MTV. Following my first ride I downloaded 1 album which I listened to a couple of times and was done. This is one attraction I try to ride every single time I go to the studios and would do so whether it was Aerosmith or some guy playing the national anthem with a spoon on his teeth.

Whilst I prefer Aerosmith to some guy hitting his teeth with a spoon, they're just a sum of it's parts and don't make or break the ride. I doubt that anybody who wasn't going to go to Disney World did so just because they were Aerosmith fans, perhaps one or two but I doubt it was in huge numbers.

And just in case anyone decides to, HEY FOLKS, IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA TO SMACK YOUR TEETH WITH A SPOON TO MAKE MUSIC. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Money talks. Plus, Disney used Shoot To Thrill in The Avengers when Tony pops up in Germany to confront Loki; he blasts it over the SHIELD radio frequencies

After seeing what fame does to young pop stars, let’s all pray that she just fades gracefully into obscurity.

Lest we all get headline news on the Swift Family and the Kelce family in a public tug of war over her millio— well-being.

Keep making stuff up. I guess you think that’s productive and adds value to the discussion(?)

Have at it. I’m out.

IP's you own are safe and controlled.
Not only isolates them from cultural trends but also isolates them from any “issues” with the band/artist. All it takes is one perceived misstep by the artist and the whole thing becomes a controversy, better to just go with fictional Muppets and simply avoid that potential.
100%. Much safer to use something you have 100% control over.

At the moment, Taylor Swift is the single most popular artist on the entire planet. That has been the case for a little while now. But that will not last forever. There will always be the next big thing, and even someone as massive as she is is not immune to that. It happened to Madonna, it happened to Michael Jackson, it has happened to everyone who was for a time the biggest celebrity on earth.
Paul McCartney's still doing pretty well for himself...

Looks to me like for every die hard TS follower there’s one who can’t stand the music or the person…….if not two

A ride featuring such a polarizing figure would be a terrible idea.

I don’t think Disney is interested in paying her royalties of using her likeness, her music.

I would hope Disney tried to make the retheme silly with the muppets.

Yea, they already own the Muppets. Can you just imagine the money she’d want for her name, likeness and music…?!
Hell, they couldn’t reach a deal with J. K. Rowling, can you imagine this negotiation…?! :greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy::greedy:
(Yes, we all know how the Rowling thing worked out for Disney, but I’m pretty sure this apples and oranges.)
It’s just a bad idea beyond that, and how this thought even entered someone’s mind baffles me. 🤨
Plus, what are they gonna’ call it…?
“Bitter Whinin’ VengeanceCoaster Starring Taylor Swift”…?! :cyclops:

To me the idea seems relatable enough to Michael Jackson's Captain EO at Epcot to at least be a good discussion point, or at least not an idea to dismiss as being too crazy to consider. She is amazingly popular main stream, and appears to be working with Disney in at least some capacity, with her special on ABC and her concert series on Disney+.

That being said, I think Chef is right in that making rides/attractions referencing "real" people is problematic, and from personal opinion, even more so now, than it might have been in the past. I was way to young to really have any awareness of social viewpoints related to MJ when he was Captain EO other than i thought it was a neat show when we visited Epcot. But it seems to me that back in the 80/90's and maybe even before that, you had celebrities/musicians that people liked, and the people who didn't just didn't like their music. But you didn't have the negative polarizing effect that i see in modern social media/culture, where in alot of cases, if you don't like someone, you are now against them. Your either team Swift or against her, as opposed to liking her music or just not listening. That makes any attempt to use a real purpose for marketing/rides hard, as your are going to have a built in ant-fan base.

I can just imagine that the vast majority of men wouldn’t wanna’ be caught dead (or have a pic taken of themselves ;)) in this queue. :cyclops:
Especially young/younger men.
As for me, I’m older, I have daughters and granddaughters, being caught in the queue (hopefully, not dead :hilarious:) wouldn’t be an issue for me and I would definitely ride with them…!!! :)
