DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Come on, it’s also very much about trying to wrap up what is still ultimately subjective into something that sounds more technical and objective. A capacity program isn’t purely rational. There are variables that can and are adjusted to suit the desires, objectives and values of the operator.
Does that mean Disney doesn’t want it? Because I’ll agree with that.

We are not the common guest. We appreciate art, historical significance and value nostalgia.

It’s why we want to keep everything ultimately and hold on to it all.

To the typical guest, Muppets was considered underutilized (and so was it’s land)

So was TSI. So was Dino-rama and Dinosaur.

Splash is the one anomaly but had different PC factors.
I also don't have much respect for the tastes of the "Common Guest" either.

Horizons is one of my favorite attractions ever but it showcased a very 1980s vision of the future; they'd have needed to completely overhaul all of the future living scenes (the best part of the ride) at the very least because of how distinctly 80s they were.

The other original EPCOT attractions had things that would have eventually needed updating, but generally not to the same extent.
I agree, As I have said before a new attraction with a similar feeling would be ideal, unfortunately that attraction is not Mission: Space.

THIS.

A person's deep desire is for something to last beyond their lifetime.

When we encounter something special...we want others (especially those we love most) to experience what we've discovered.

That's why the longer something exists, the more upsetting it is to close.
My feelings on Reflections of Earth to a T

in the case of the muppets I’m guessing it was a desire / mandate from a higher authority to only create mini-lands - and the parking lot adjacent to muppet courtyard made the most sense.

I’m actually guessing that decision vs. animation courtyard was made because of construction timeline and not for future park planning.

It’s interesting to see what we end up with - I think the mayhem coaster will be fun and the theatre next door seems more than capable of handling muppet vision in the future - so I’m not sure why it wouldn’t happen.
DHS will likely never make sense as a whole ever again, unfortunately.

Last week I took a little break by reviewing the 1987 MK operation manual (most recent #'s 1986)🤓. Each attraction carefully evaluated via a variety of factors: capacity/staffing/square footage/etc.

That being said I vividly remember the turnstiles on EVERY attraction.

They do have the blessing of size but I don’t think size is the sole factor.

I don’t know of any business that keeps expanding its products without ever retiring old ones.
I certainly get that...and I admit I got spoiled from the late 80's/early 90's when they kept expanding and took virtually nothing away...I remember looking at the old guide books and saying "they can still put something there, and there, and there...."

...but just imagine how much greater their attendance/profits/reputation would be if they used more of the expansion pads and relied less on closing older attractions along the way.
  • More "precious" capacity.
  • Greater fanbase (the "older" fans keep coming back; "newer" fans keep coming for the new and discovering some of the "old" while they're there)
I agree 100% with what @TrainsOfDisney said earlier today...why not Toad and WtP?

In this regard: recent WINS for Tron, Frozen M&G, and Rat....and even Monsters Coaster (& imso Carnyland...it was little more than a parking lot for cryin' out loud)

And in some cases the consensus is things just gotta go: "EEA"

MV recently made an argument how they could have kept Muppets and still do Monsters coaster...but I realize that's a lost cause too.

Mansion? 😬 (I mean...your avatar...uh)

The violence?

(ps: I see that I didn't delete my post fast enough ...I have only myself to be upset at)
That was partially my fault. I did just say Mansion and then realize that was too broad so I changed it to "Elements Of" but think about it. They have already taken Constance's axe in California and the hanging Ghost Host they have apparently been looking at for years.

...to find another way of making the Ghost Host the Ghost Host 🤔

they better not dare think of touching that superb narration....

As with Pirates the problem inherent with an attraction dealing with death is the only way to avoid the topic of death or violence would be to close the entire ride since it is intrinsically part of the theme of the attraction.
