DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Trying to make those who are never happy, happy, is by definition futile.
Just to go on record...there's much about Disney that still makes me very happy. They've just been on this 3 decade (overall) trend where they keep taking away those parts that made me happiest....

2b fair...2 notes to temper this.
  • I haven't really "done" anything that's opened in the last decade. I realize that's quite substantial (my quick count came up with 14 major attractions: 2 AK, 5 HS, 4 Epcot, 2 MK; plus many smaller offerings like Land & Canada movie reboots)
  • Plus...I'm genuinely hopeful that everything they've announced to-date that's currently at-least "shovels in the ground" (by my other quick count at-least 10 more attractions 3 AK, 4 HS, 4 MK)...plus new Soarin'....will be "top shelf."

Time to face reality...

MV3D is more beloved in this community because we all knew what it was. To the casual guest, it was 30+ year 3D show with characters that aren't as relevant as many other brands.

MV3D isn't coming back.

The fact that the Muppets IP are headed to RnR is a massive olive branch to Muppet fans. They don't belong there either but better there just being in a seasonal Christmas show only.

You're probably right. Unless Muppets get "rediscovered," to the level of popularity that they had at their late 70's peak...

I always surmised that IF they brought it back, it'd be well-attended for about a year by grateful fans...then sit mostly empty (again).

Even the fans would pass it by thinking "It'll always be there" (unfortunately the same mindset much of us had with TSI etc).....thus returning MV3D to the state it was in that brought about the closure in the first place.

NB: I remember being there when it first opened in 1991, and thinking to myself "no one younger than myself had ever seen The Muppet Show during it's original run...and few younger than me even saw the re-runs (I can elaborate greatly if needed)."

My point is that even in 1991 I was amazed (but still grateful!) that a brand-new attraction was based on a show that ended 10 years prior.

MV3D was a great attraction. Muppet Show is a great show. But, unfortunately, the latter is more dated than the former. How many MS celebrities would today's generation even know of? Steve Martin, Julie Andrews Mark Hamill maybe? Brooke Shields, their youngest guest, is now 60. Most of them are long-gone.😬

I think there's better chance they just create a new Muppets show than bring back MV3D and nobody here will be happy.

If they did that then the people who think it's coming back would just pin their hopes on the Magic Eye Theater.

Then when they announced something else for that they would find some other place to expect Disney to shove it.

On and on until we're decades past it's removal and still acting like it might come back.

I don’t think that’s actually reality. I’d say the muppets have proven to be one of the most timeless brands ever.

If captain eo could come back - with all of the controversy - muppets can certainly come back as well. Who knows when and where - but I’d put money on it happening at some point - even if it’s for a “limited time”

I’m rooting for your comment and would love to be wrong. There are some “signs”, the way they archived the attraction.

But still I think the community here overvalues the attraction. Yes it’s a masterpiece. But at its core, it’s a 3D show and ran for 30+ years. Disney has all the data on who was experiencing MV3D and the foot traffic at Grand Avenue.

Stage 1 never reopening after COVID was a sign we all ignored. It was in dead area of the park and MV3D has been on the chopping block for years.
