Missed opportunity? Why Disney hasn’t rethemed Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster to Taylor Swift

That’s because there are millions of men who can’t square away that Travis Kelsey is literally living their ultimate teenage fantasy. Super Bowl winning star NFL player who (is about to) retire and marry a billionaire pop star.

Likewise there is a much smaller subset of women who are similarly upset that a women can become a billionaire pop star and then marry a Super Bowl winning NFL player.

And to top it all off, it’s apparent the two are actually, truely, in love with each other based on their incredible dorky public displays and interviews on the subject.

Envy is a sin people, and it never looks good on anyone.

Signed a non Chiefs fan, non Swiftie who can only really recognize one TS song (Shake it off.)
I don't care either way, but I'm willing to bet a ton more women care about what you describe than the men. Most men literally don't care about celebrity relationships. There's also a zero percent chance you know how much they love each other.

In general, it's a terrible idea to make a ride about a "real" person because real people almost always disappoint and polarize.

Let's make it Goofy's Sky School for graduates.

No offense, but this was such a surprise to learn, I had to ask the Google to confirm what you were telling me.

Sure enough... 🙁

I need to go lay down for awhile and absorb all this.

2025 is a dark Christmas indeed.
They are actors. They don't really get married it's just a show. That's all you have to say.

Kinda like Bill Nye the Science guy isn't really a scientist, he just plays one on TV.

To me the idea seems relatable enough to Michael Jackson's Captain EO at Epcot to at least be a good discussion point, or at least not an idea to dismiss as being too crazy to consider. She is amazingly popular main stream, and appears to be working with Disney in at least some capacity, with her special on ABC and her concert series on Disney+.

That being said, I think Chef is right in that making rides/attractions referencing "real" people is problematic, and from personal opinion, even more so now, than it might have been in the past. I was way to young to really have any awareness of social viewpoints related to MJ when he was Captain EO other than i thought it was a neat show when we visited Epcot. But it seems to me that back in the 80/90's and maybe even before that, you had celebrities/musicians that people liked, and the people who didn't just didn't like their music. But you didn't have the negative polarizing effect that i see in modern social media/culture, where in alot of cases, if you don't like someone, you are now against them. Your either team Swift or against her, as opposed to liking her music or just not listening. That makes any attempt to use a real purpose for marketing/rides hard, as your are going to have a built in ant-fan base.

Nevermind politics.

I knew Disney was upset when MJ didn't show up for EO premiere.

And I'd bet an inflection point for Disney attractions and major celebrities (at the latest) was 1993.

I remember when they announced "Honey" 3-D. EVERYONE thought it was because of the 1993 scandals (although to be fair they were likely working on it beforehand).

Just like I hope Disney was telling the truth when they said they were working on Splash revamp since 2019 (not 2020).

My parents “wouldn’t let me” go to EO as a kid cause of MJ. I never really wanted to do much in Epcot except ride the double decker bus around (and because of that I never rode the original figment ride…. Don’t get me started!!!!)

Years later when they brought it back we all went together to EO and they liked it BECAUSE MJ was in it. Times change and all. Haha.

Yeahhhh....my parents likely silently cringed while watching it with my younger brothers and I.

..... like I cringed when watching "Tribute" in 2010.

My 4 year old brother was almost MJ in 1987 for Halloween. All because of EO. At the last MOMENT he changed his mind to Ronald McDonald.

All were relieved, even the (barely) 8 year old me.

And I never not hated clowns.

So why not Taylor Swift instead?

I'm lukewarm on Swift too, but wouldn’t be averse to her presence. She annoys me in no way.

Nevertheless, for RNRC she lacks a certain edge, there's not enough intensity, madness, hysterics. This is a coaster! It's no coincidence RNRC currently has a hard rock band. The Muppets - I'm lukewarm on them too - do have a 'bring down the house' mayhem style that this ride needs.

Shame they didn’t retheme RNRC with AC/DC back when Iron Man 2 came out; Shoot To Thrill is a perfect roller coaster song.

Alas, far too late now as Malcolm Young has passed.

I saw AC/DC live last year! They've clearly lost some steam, but was still great. AC/DC would've been a superb choice for RnRC, but obviously one or two decades ago at the latest. Or perhaps not, their 'working class lads' image and Aussi vibes are very different from the flashy Americanism of Aerosmith, who are a better fit for Hollywood.

Personally I'd opt for 'you've been....*launch coaster*...thunderstruck!', followed by 'Highway to hell'. Ooh, so good I might have to try that through headphones one day!
