The Muppet Show is making a comeback with a reboot produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures. Disney+ has ordered a television event featuring special guest star Sabrina Carpenter to premiere in 2026, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the classic original series.

The variety special will serve as a backdoor pilot and, in success, would spawn a new Muppet Show television series. The event, labeled as Muppets pilot, will film in Los Angeles; it received a $1.6M tax credit from the California Film Commission last month.

From 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures, the brand-new installment will feature Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and the gang as they return to the Muppet Theatre to produce a variety show.

As much as I do love the Muppets, I have to give this idea a hard NO. The Muppets lost everything they were when Jim Henson died. Yes, the company has tried to go on with them, but none of the films, shows, etc.....have been even slightly entertaining. Henson had a very special wit, the previous puppeteers had great voices and chemistry with Henson, and the writing was always top notch. Since his passing, the spark is long gone that made them so enjoyable. The attempts at humor now are a massive failure because they're trying too hard to be current and hip, and it just completely misses the mark. If I ever bother to check this out, it may only be out of slight curiosity, but the Muppets' golden years are long in the past.

One of the greatest Muppet productions, Muppets Christmas Carol was produced after Jim Henson's death. Muppets Haunted Mansion was also excellent and that's a recent release along with several other shows/movies since MCC. I've seen a few clips of this show and it has potential

Muppets Haunted Mansion was nothing more than the Muppets in each scene of the ride with a small Gonzo redemption story. Granted it was lightyears better than the two live action Manion movies but that isn't saying much.

IMO, Muppets Christmas Carol was awful, as was Muppets Haunted Mansion. They simply weren't funny, the songs were weak, the writing was terrible,......the only redeeming things were how well it tied in the Disney World ride elements.

Not that I'm aware of, but I could ask that of anyone who liked it or anything else since Henson's passing.
True! I don't hold the opinion against you, but I've never heard of anyone who dislikes it! What's your reasoning? The jokes and songs were written by longtime Muppet collaborators Jerry Juhl and Paul Williams!

Muppet Christmas Carol is a wonderful Christmas tradition. It's only downside is they edit out the best song "When love is gone" from the dvd and streaming. That guy probably doesn't believe in Santa Claus either. ;)

The first season of The Muppets that was on ABC a few years back was fantastic till they changed the entire writing team.

Just because Jim Henson died, doesn't mean the Muppets are fading away! Give them time! If you don't want to watch it, fine! Don't watch it! But in my opinion, I think they got a hit in their hands this time.
