DHS Disney Confirms Muppets Take Over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Or the World Showplace. I know it does get utilized, but I can't imagine it's driving as much revenue as a new attraction and/or shopping and dining. But maybe I'm wrong about that.
Isn't that basically where they hold cheer competitions? I'm sure thats somewhat lucrative but agreed, move that over to ESPN World of Sports and call it a day.

I'm pretty sure you can rent it out for events. They also have used it as part of the EPCOT festivals in the past, but I'm not sure if they still do that.

I’m trying to be excited about this but I have little faith in Imagineering to do this right.

Odds are it will be another downgrade.

I hope I’m wrong.
Hard for this to be a downgrade, in my opinion. Aerosmith isn't exactly a relevant group anymore, and the theming of the coaster itself is just lit-up flats. A new piece of Muppet content is a good thing. And there will be animatronics in the pre-show.

Now just bring me a full mini-MuppetLand with MV3D restored, and I'll be a Gruntled Walt again!

While I hope the new RNRC is good. I can't help but think this whole thing is just a cynical ploy to stop us from complaining about the closure of Muppet Vision.

“These lands and attractions will deliver some incredibly creative experiences while also bringing new life to underutilized areas.

The brutally honest comment really cements why Dinoland, Grand Avenue and Tom Sawyer Island is actively under construction.
As always, to the extent they were “underutilized” (and a lot of that impression is based on “vibes” and nothing more) it’s because Disney didn’t care to encourage guests to utilize them. Disney drives guest behavior.

I agree 100% but I’d say TSI was probably the outlier due for something significant due to accessibility reasons.

but what made them "underutilized" is a major reason why I liked many of those experiences best (especially TSI)

It's going to be open until Spring 2026? That doesn't bode well for further changes or additions (i.e. the loading area or changing out sets).

Eh, MK needs the capacity imo. It’s literally the most visited theme park in the world
I never, ever disagreed.

And it's a 100% "lost cause" now (so please everyone don't pounce "YOU'RE ON THE WRONG THREAD!")

...I just wish all the new plans were done exclusively on expansion pads.

It's something "leftover" from my childhood.

Thru the mid-1990's virtually all "new" offerings were on (for the most part) undeveloped land:
  • Sunset Boulevard/Tower of Terror/etc (they replaced a theater with a nicer theater so no real loss there)
  • Splash Mountain (they replaced a train station with a nicer train station so no tragedy there either)
  • Wonders of Life
  • Norway
I guess I got "spoiled by that." As I just mentioned on another thread in a different context...I thought they'd just keep adding and adding....never "take away"

I mean to be fair,

Monsters Inc replaced a theater show with a theater show but added a thrill ride

Tron replaced nothing, only shortened the Speedway

Hoping it means it’s a mostly simple install. Everything needed is already built and they’re basically just swapping it out with the launch being the only thing that takes anytime

Absolutely...I can only/always celebrate those examples...(plus "Rat...")

I'm guess I'm just admitting I got spoiled as a kid lol

The first major outright closure/replacement of my life was World of Motion in 1996.

Yes Horizons and 20K closed before then...but they repeatedly gave the impression they could "reopen any day now" (and in the former case, Horizons (briefly) did).

Communicore closing to be replaced by Innoventions made perfect sense.

Then they ramped up in 1998/9.

As many echoed elsewhere...I'm just hoping that what's coming far exceeds what's replaced.

That’s fair enough, don’t get me wrong, I think Disney needs more play areas and chances to “calm down”.
That’s not what I’ve argued. I simply think there’s a much better use of the 11-14 acres prevented for use by TSI and the rivers.

A few other highly themed play areas throughout the resort in my opinion would be very welcome, which appears to be what we’re getting.

I would like to see something a little more significant come to Epcot as we do have pretty much regular playgrounds

It does, but wouldn't the solution there be to put new attractions in the expansion pads and empty spaces (like Stitch), which would actually be adding capacity, and THEN replace the "underutilized" spaces if they still need capacity?

Shutting dow Tom Sawyer Island and taking what will likely be at least two years to build something new in its place isn't exactly adding capacity - it's removing capacity that we won't get back until the Cars thing is completed.
