I just had a really negative experience with D23 - I was going to go ahead and upgrade to gold with the Black Friday 30% off deal - I fill everything out - it says “s&h TBD” - this is normal on sites so I hit continue and it automatically charges me the full amount with $25 for shipping and handling - which is crazy high.

As far as I can tell - this is an illegal practice - retailers must tell you the total price before they authorize the purchase.

I’ve emailed d23 and I’ll take it up with the credit card if I don’t get a response.

Yikes - hope all works out. I am really peeved with them for increasing the cost of the membership for next year by at least $25 from what I can tell, and they are discontinuing the magazine publication completely. I remember when they used to ship quarterly magazines (and most of them would get damaged due to poor packaging). They would send as a courtesy just one replacement copy a year if you received a damaged shipment (seemed to be poor customer service IMO). At the time, you could buy replacement magazines at a bookstore, but then they discontinued that as well. Recently, the magazines have only been available in digital format for free, and if you wanted a physical copy, you could order from the disneystore.com for $9.95 plus shipping (unless you wait to purchase when they offer free shipping). I just feel like they are getting greedier and greedier. The magazine was my favorite part of the membership. While it is great they offer special events, half the time I don't hear about them until too late or the other half of the time, I'm unable to register before the event is sold out. I'm a charter member, and I am really leaning toward not renewing this time.

Yeah…. I had discontinued when they stopped mailing the magazine as well - that’s a big part of what I enjoyed. But with getting the Disneyland 70 book and having the expo coming up this year I figured I’d renew.

At the end of the day if they don’t fix it - fine, but it was a serious website glitch - basically they added to my charge without me knowing or approving the charge.

So far I just got a generic reply from them - surprise haha

My reply thanked me for my candid feedback - ha ha. I hope others will complain. I'm sure those who worked on the magazine are quite upset to not be able to publish it anymore. I agree the Disneyland 70 book was super nice. I am just not as excited about the gifts for next year. I admittedly have often sold those gifts on eBay to make back some of the cost of the membership, because half the time I am not excited about the gifts (definitely saving the Disneyland book though). I hope you will eventually get some sort of actual response or resolution.

I just got a free D23 membership when I renewed Disney+, and it seems that’s offered to any subscriber. I imagine that’s going to broaden and change the demographics of D23 membership quite a bit (likely adding more casual fans hoping for product discounts, vs. more hardcore fans, for example.) Wondering if this speaks to a change in direction on Disney’s part, regarding D23?

Is the free gold including a free gift? I really missed out if it did. Not currently a Disney+ subscriber but could have renewed that for the same price I think.

That sites muppet vision event was incredible - I actually hope that this site and them can get along again in the future. :)

Maybe - I just bought the gold membership so haven’t got mine yet.

I almost bought it at the signing at Disneyland, I bought Bob’s book, got in line, asked a cm to hold my spot so I could run in and get it and it had sold out! Haha.

Actually probably for the best - Bobs interactions was so sincere and genuine they couldn’t have topped that experience.

I'm thinking lots of updates to previously announced projects. Probably a couple of big announcements about Villains.

Maybe a new lounge in AK or HS, given the success (and presumably relatively low construction cost) of Beak and Barrel.

Hopefully they finally say what they're doing with those mysterious drones that were seemingly trialed at Disney Springs, then seen in some kind of practice show in California.

I don't keep up with the cruise lines as much, but no doubt some news there. (We would like to cruise, but my son is also fascinated with the Costa Concordia and the 1970s The Poseidon Adventure move - based on an encounter the Queen Mary had - and quite frankly it has made me pretty wary of being out on the ocean. Every time I ponder it I think: "Two words. Rogue. Wave.")

I could see some kind of new rewards / incentives / club type program being announced, as I'm convinced opening D23 to Disney+ customers is the precursor to... something.

Also probably due for a big movie announcement, right?

agree with this. been wanting for years for dhs to have a Hollywood lounge (or even a Hollywood themed art deco hotel) only other things I could see new would be maybe new figment or SSE, possibly something ab DL's TL. or a redo of star tours and or mission space. (or hopefully a new fountains of nations for an easy win (prayer hand emoji). besides that and new concept art and updates for already announced stuff think that'll be it. Although hoping for updates on Abu Dhabi and Shanghai's possible second gate. Would also love for AK to get a small family ride.
