Seems like all the trees are down - photos from today:

ive seen an article and now this post about the trees being "down" im not trying to be pedantic, but are they actually down - as in logged - or have they transplanted them? seen no sawdust piles or anything and it seems out of character for disney to kill mature trees for no reason

Transplanting would be a huge effort usually reserved for individual trees, you'd have to isolate each one's root structure etc etc. There's lots o' downed trees in that photo, I'd guess they are either mulching the downed trees offsite or just haven't gotten to it yet

They have a good reason not to transplant them. Very common species better sourced from elsewhere and by better I mean cheaper. The trees are debris at this point and will be removed as such. The piles of clearing when they want/need to build is common and nothing like what a hurricane would leave

So is what they're building going to block the view of Big Thunder from here, or will it make Big Thunder blend in with its own peaks?
I think it'll actually probably end up being a bit of both, depending on where you're standing. Of course we only have concept art to go off of, but I think there will be certain vantage points where BTM is visible, but probably blending in with the new rock work from a distance.

I wonder if they will sell limited edition mulch? If not, they are missing a revenue opportunity!

Since the main ride is trying to depict a off highway ride I would think that the Thunder Mtn. landscape will blend right in seamlessly. Even the color of the faux dirt road will be the same.

They have talked about the "Mount Prometheus" approach to this area where the mountain blends into it's surroundings no matter where you view it from:

I personally don’t think that this will be as extreme or noticeable as many think it will
Let's hope. We'll see.

Again, their data dump and "fun map" on June 2nd, imo, was a roundabout admission that they "goofed" and them trying to convince us "It won't be thaaaaaaaat bad!" (I'd love/hope to be proven mortifyingly wrong).

Personally I think a lot of what this is going to really look like is still somewhat open to guessing.

Of the two versions of concept we’ve seen, I believe the first one we were shown was pretty early and not necessarily reflective of what they’re ultimately going to build, and the more cartoonist version is, of course, not gonna be overly reflective of the reality as I believe it was more intention to highlight specific criticisms such as lack of water or the way it will interact with Big Thunder Mountain.

Now I do certainly believe that there are strong elements of both of those pieces of concept art that will make it into the final build. However, I don’t think we have seen a one-to-one of what they intend to build rather have only seen broad strokes art, and a piece of art intended to specifically highlight certain elements.

I think its worth remembering that this will not be how you picturing memories of Rivers it at the moment, Tom Sawyer island was dead centre, this going to be much closer to us. I have overlaid the layout onto a 3D map file. you can see that actual Piston Peak (white and gray on image) is nearer to the edge, you are unlikely to see BTM until you walk around it either left or right - the architectural concept art has a ton of trees for blending
