News New Permit Filed for Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room at Magic Kingdom

Well that's certainly one of the opinions of all time, and with how Disney's going these days, they just might do that!

Is it really though? Nobody would miss the Carpet spinner, very few would miss the tree house, and I'd keep the tiki room at the Poly. I know some people have an attachment to JC, but even that seems to be weaning. When we were there last month the highest wait time we saw was 20 minutes. Tiana, Peter Pan, Tron, Winnie the Pooh, Seven Dwarves, and Space mountain all pretty much doubled it the entire day. Adventureland needs a draw, and JC takes up too much room and has too low of capacity for its land allocation. Especially when there's a very similar experience down the road with actual real animals. Keep JC in Disneyland where it has more historical value, and serves more of a purpose. I think WDW has an entire land they can repurpose if they want to keep going down the path of creating a unique identity for the Magic Kingdom 🤷‍♂️

Feeling like I better throw my 2 cents in, not that it matters (said in Eeyore voice), but The Enchanted Tiki Room needs to stay. It is historic and some of us do still enjoy it. Not everything has to be for everyone. There is still a lot of nostalgic value to it. The same can be said of Jungle Cruise and especially with it tying into Skipper Canteen. Swiss Family Treehouse, I also like. The only thing I would be good with moving, is the magic carpets and that is simply because they really mess up the flow of Adventureland and cramp the pathways. The direct in the sun queue is a hard sell for me, but they are nice at night. And I do have good memories on them with my family.

My partner suggested that the Tiki Room be moved to the Polynesian to be preserved for it's significance, freeing up some room for an Adventureland refresh.
There they could turn it into the dinner show it was originally intended to be...

(Supposedly Walt was concerned the guests would be too entranced by the animatronics to actually leave the restaurant after eating, but that would no longer be an issue!)

I’m actually fine with MK’s Tiki Room trying new shows, as long as the original characters and theme song stick around. Maybe it’s cause Under New Management was the version I grew up with…

Not long after "new management" had replaced the original I went to see if it was just my first impression that made me not like it. Anyway, I struck up a conversation in the queue with a sweet little 5 year old girl. Her mother was so excited that she was able to bring her daughter to see the attraction that had moved her when she was a child and couldn't wait to share with her. I had my own upset about the "management" theme, but didn't have the heart or even the right to tell her about the changes. As we sat down she mentioned how much she loved "Sing like the birdies sing" that she and I both remembered was such a wonderful part of the show especially when the whole audience just swayed back and forth while singing along during that part. She so wanted to share that with her daughter. When the show ended I looked over at the mother who at that point was quietly crying. I asked her is she was OK and all she could say is I wanted so much to share that with my daughter and share that unforgettable feeling that I had when I first heard it with my parents and they've taken it away.

Turns out that seemed to be a common opinion about the new program. I'd like to think that some caring Tiki gods had something to do with singeing the new managers feathers and giving us most of the original back including, if memory serves, those birds were once again singing like they should have been. When I first saw the show I was the adult and sitting between my two, (6 & 9 years old), daughters as they happily sang like the birdies sang. You don't have to be a child to be moved by something that simple. The trouble was that, in all probability, some 20 something year old imagineer newcomers couldn't possible imagine that a 1932 popular song would still be enjoyed in the early 2000's. As usual, they didn't know their audience. I'm kinda sorry that the topic was brought up again. I had forgotten about it and this discussion just made me see the sad, disappointed look on that one mother's face and wondered did that happened to more than one person.

My poor, Disney loving dad who hyped up Disney World my entire life was first exposed to Under New Management and Journey into Your Imagination with Figment in one trip. If I could look back on those moments like a video I imagine he was probably horrified half the time.

Meega Nala Kweesta!
So here is something that is a made up phrase generated from a cartoon character that has absolutely no actual definition and yet we, the cultured society, have decided that it is a vulgar phase and are willing to react negatively to it. OK, so much for the human race. I think it means "have a nice day" which in today's world is not only vulgar, it is practically impossible.

they seem to be in Tokyo
We cannot judge Disney Co. choices by what Disney Tokyo does. Disney doesn't own or run Tokyo Disneyland. Oriental Land Company (OLC) is the owner and operator. They decide what they want and pay Disney for the right to use Disney's brand. They might also pay Disney for imagineering in some cases. They have no influence on the management of the Disney owned parks.

I've realized that (& I'm actually somewhat consoled by that), but I also realize that hasn't stopped Disney from making similar decisions before (TSI/RoA)

I am worried, I am very worried.

Will the tiki room be converted to a Moana themed lounge?
I wish I could disagree with you. As long as the birds are beyond arm's reach like Peg Leg Pete is...I wouldn't rule it out, even in-spite of its proximity to the B&B (or they make it another DVC Lounge).

(Belive it or not I've really been scaling back lately 😬 😂

I didn’t hate Management - in fact I quite enjoyed it. I don’t think modern day Disney would be capable of anything like Management. I know the show was widely hated, but one thing it wasn’t was bland. The only thing modern Disney writing is capable of is bland… and bland is the absolute worst thing a film or attraction can be. I’ll take a dozen rides with the gleeful stupidity of Fast and Furious over one colorless lump like Zootopia.

I really hope this isn’t a sign of Moana’s Tiki Room or some nonsense. Leave some classic things alone. Sheesh.

That fire was too much of a coincidence to be an accident... Only hit stuff needed for the UNM show despite otherwise being in a space where original assets could have been burnt to a crisp. It's always been theorized the fire was not as innocent as it may have seemed, and I cannot find any reason to believe otherwise (especially if someone had motive).
