Sad to hear. Average lifespan of a gorilla in captivity is 40-50 years, so I’d say him being down the middle of that range is pretty good. Left his mark on gorilla conservation by fathering 14. RIP Gino. Hope the other gorillas that were routinely around him will be ok once they notice his absence.

Gorilla Falls is probably my favorite animal area at AK, would hang around and watch the gorillas way longer than one should. Every time I was there he would kind of be by himself looking over all the others.

Legitimately sad about this. Would always spend a good deal of time watching the gorillas at AK and found the family dynamic of the troop to be so beyond fascinating, not least of all for Gino's "Dad's off chilling but close by" vibes. Always served as a reminder to me of how close to human they really are. Sad day.
