News Guest dies, found unresponsive after riding Stardust Racers

The man probably should not have ridden the coaster - some bodies aren't meant for it. Rumors indicate he was having heart issues earlier in the day (per his family), and seeing he was wheelchair bound / a paraplegic, sadly he was dealt a harder deck of cards than most humans. It's a freak accident and pre-existing conditions certainly came into play.

I wonder if they could slow down the coaster; less G's; less chance to pass out?
If they slow the ride down much then it would be too slow to make it around the track. Also whilst I haven’t been on the ride most people say the ride has more negative than positive G’s and it is positive G’s that are more likely to cause people to grey out not negative.

I’m of the impression people say this is an intense coaster but in reality it is an intense coaster “for Florida” versus others across America and elsewhere of the world.

Hulk and Velocicoaster are more "intense" IMO, with VC being the one that tends to whip the most and Hulk having the craziest "forces"- but it's definitely up there with them for sure

Mission Space killed people and it’s still open. Other than creating Mission Green do we know if anything else was modified?
Closing Mission Space would be a good thing. But this is more outwardly the rides fault afaik, not necessarily just an exacerbation of a medical condition. If it was JUST the medical condition, then yeah continue as normal.

I don’t have much in the way of medical knowledge so excuse me if this is a silly question but could this man have been injured before having gotten on the ride?
If its their cause of death, I highly doubt that this guy was able to face multiple blunt force traumas so quickly as to kill him in a theme park and then get on a ride appearing fine?

So you think they will just keep it as is? Add a warning that says, "If there's a chance you could pass out, don't ride this coaster!" ?
My thoughts:
  • Update the software to run a trimmed or less-intense mode by default
  • Raise height and bodily ability requirements
  • Retrain Team Members on restraint checks and red flags
  • Tighten the legal language around rider eligibility - add signage related to it.
  • Add a visible secondary click restraint as a peace-of-mind backup, even if it’s redundant

You like Mission Space??
While its no Horizons, YES I like it! Its a very EPCOTy NON IP attraction with a great queue, a great story and TWO great rides in one; around the moon or to Mars.

Every time I am in EPCOT I must ride at least Orange!!!

Some folks have a real HATE for this ride simply because they cant tolerate it.

Some say, "I cant tolerate this ride therefore I HATE it and it must be closed"

I'm not an engineer so no I do not know what a fix would entail. I am a medical professional though and this should not happen on a coaster. Blunt force trauma accidents should not happen. Full stop.
Sincere question - if a limp human body is getting thrown around like a ragdoll at 60+ mph and around 4 G’s, that’s not enough to cause blunt force trauma?

That’s what I’m thinking but I started wondering if it was possible that he had some kind of injury earlier in the day or maybe the day before and felt like he could power through and keep enjoying his vacation but getting on an intense ride did him in.

It reads that several posters are making out that if you pass out or lose consciousness that the attraction operators then hold no responsibility to any damage that your limp body receives as though that's just bad luck and nobody is at fault other than the victim? Surely they must be designed so that even if a person is unconscious that there's enough padding to stop a person being literally banged about until the point of death? If a person fainted or lost consciousness through a heart attack I can't see there being no responsibility from the operator over what happens from that point onwards.

Surely all rides must be designed so that if a person loses consciousness that it's still in theory safe enough for that person to complete the ride without literally be shaken to death? Multiple blunt force trauma deaths shouldn't be a possible result from merely passing out on a ride and then have people say in essence "It's their own fault for passing out". That's how some of the comments seem to be assessing this situation.
