Walt Disney – A Magical Life

My understanding is the building in Disneyland can't even rotate anymore
And? It can’t be rebuilt? I mean I’m sure that the technology still exists to build a platform that rotates, heck they can even improve upon the original mechanisms. They literally just built one for the Opera House so they can switch between Walt and Lincoln, so we know it’s possible.

That is what they're doing with the Walt animatronic.

I just think it makes more sense to leave COP where it is and give Disneyland something new in that space. That way WDW retains one key historic attraction on its roster and DL gets something else. Everyone wins.

It sounds nice and like it has a ring of poetic justice to it to bring the Carousel home to Disneyland, but I just don't foresee it being rediscovered and beloved by the public at this point in time, thus best to leave it where it is.

I agree. I think it would be a waste of resources and unappreciated by most. WDW has the historic attraction. I don't want a copy of said attraction that wasn't even around in my lifetime. Tiki room and Lincoln are DL's COP. I guess you could throw Primeval World in there too.

Well its certainly a better use of resources than a DVC lounge that currently occupies the space. ;)

Haha it is? That costs them nothing.
Sure, but is it really the best use for the spot? Probably not, just like the lower portion sitting mostly empty isn't the best use either. Just like the Magic Eye sitting empty. So use the Magic Eye for the DVC lounge and put an updated CoP in Launch Bay, heck you can do two different shows and use both floors to maximize the space.

The whole idea is to redo TL with a retro-futuristic TL67 retheme and include CoP. I know it'll probably not happen, but one can dream.

I don’t like the DVC lounge being there and I also wouldn’t want a copy of COP in there. Of course I would prefer a COP(y) to a DVC lounge I can’t even enter but I think that real estate should be used for a Space 220 like restaurant, a new attraction or for People Mover show scenes.

Sure, well here’s hoping we get some refresh announcement soon to the space no matter what it is.

It seems to me like a horrible error that Carousel of Progress, the attraction that most embodies Walt’s optimism for the future, is somehow not located within Disneyland. And since Tomorrowland is rotting away with no replacement in sight, I enjoy the fantasy that CoP could somehow return to its rightful home.

Ideally WDI could whip up an original attraction for DL’s Tomorrowland that embodies Walt’s futurism just as well as CoP, but in a more exciting package for savvy modern guests. But we know that won’t happen either.

They'd have to tear the building down to rebuild which, according to several videos, cannot be done because the 1967 redo put necessary infrastructure in the building. So that would mean tearing down and rebuilding all of Tomorrowland. And that doesn't include the $$$ needed from the currently tight-fisted regime. Finally, the move of the CoP to WDW was paid for by GE who hasn't sponsored it in decades.

Nothing in this case is impossible, even if improbable. The point is it can be done, ie nothing is preventing it other than the will and the money.

Also if its an updated CoP or similar AA based show it can be sponsored again if Disney was willing to partner with a tech company. Heck Innovations in the mid-2000s was sponsored by Microsoft and HP. So nothing says Disney can't partner with another tech company to have an updated AA show created.

I sincerely doubt Disney would want to tear down all of Tomorrowland to install a 60-year-old attraction that 1) They didn't pay for to design and build and 2) Didn't pay for he move and 3) Had pretty much zero attendance at the end. Thats the thing about Disneyland - AA shows don't last as long because its mostly locals who skip the shows they've seen a zillion times (Its also the primary reason GE wanted it moved) Also the days of sponsors is nearing an end (see: EPCOT). Companies can get more bang for their buck on the internet nowadays. GM continues to sponsor because they get a car showroom at the end.

Yes maybe not, but one can dream can they not?

Also sponsorships aren't over, look at every sports stadium and airport around the world, they are littered with sponsorships, and don't look to be ending anytime soon. And why, because of the foot traffic and tv coverage that they may not otherwise get on the internet. So maybe it hasn't been a thing with large attractions recently, but even Disney Parks still do get sponsors for things, for example Enterprise has sponsored things around DLR and other Disney Parks for years and that doesn't look to be ending, and Dole continues to sponsor Tiki Room at DL which again doesn't appear to be ending. Maybe WDW is ending them, dunno don't pay much attention to the swamps since its not my home park, but at DLR they don't look to be ending sponsors at least at this point. So if you get the right tech company they may be willing to sponsor a new AA attraction that showcases their technology, you never know. For example some around on this side of the forum have been pushing to have SpaceX sponsor an attraction in a TL redo, and while for political reasons it's likely not feasible the idea is sound. Have them or Blue Origin (or any other private space company) sponsor an exploration of the solar system type attraction along with AAs.

So anything is possible, again even if improbable.

This is like the claims that the Matterhorn would sink if the Submarine Lagoon was drained.

Don't trust everything you see online. They do not have to redo all of Tommorowland because buildings are interconnected, despite what online rumors and content creators say. It's just a justification people use for why Disney has abandoned parts of Tomorrowland.

Disney just redid their entire Rivers of America and Train in Disneyland despite hearing for years it was critical infrastructure. When there is a will there is a way.

Disney like any company can reroute any infrastructure if they choose to.
