my kids will be bummed that this will be closed for our trip in November, but definitely makes sense to have this done before Dinosaur closes

I am super excited for when Tropical Americas closes, but going to be a rough couple of years and just not a lot to do in the park in the meantime

Geez man, we will be down there during this time and I absolutely can't justify going to AK. What will they have, 5 rides open? So now Kali River will be open in Jan and Feb when it's way too cold to ride? Poor decisions.

But if they don't do it now then either it is down the same time as Dino is closed or they push back Dino's closing further which pushing back Tropical Americas opening

My family is bummed it is closed but I do understand

We are planning to get hoppers so will still got to AK but if we weren't it would be hard to justify a full day ticket there

How much work do they actually do in this annual refurb? I'm guilty of rarely going on Kali any time of year, this feels like a ride that can withstand missing a refurb, unless it's a lot of ride system type work
I think just the nature of being a water ride, to service all the mechanicals, check all the structure for safety, etc - they just require more (why Splash/TBA usually have annual down time, thought TBA hasn't yet) and water parks go down for lengthy ones every year

The only closed ride will be Kali? Yes Primevil Whirl and Triceratops Spin are permanently closed but everything else is open.
One 2nd thought, Zootopia 3D doesn't open to November actually so yes October has two closed attractions and then November is just one.
You've still got 2x Avatar rides, Safari, train, conservation station (including the drawing class), walking trails in Africa & Asia, Everest, Lion King, Nemo and Flight shows. Plus characters & other animals.

I agree it doesn't really make sense having a water attraction open in the colder weather but at least they are prioritising having something open once Dinosaur closes.
It is just the Zootopia 3D show missing for October really, Animal Kingdom has always been just as much about the animals as it is rides.

Always remember and don't ever forget that when you come in from the below zero north in late January and February, 60 degrees is tropical. If the air is 60 degrees or above Kali will be ridden. Perhaps not as many as warmer weather, but it will be used. Every little bit helps.

Is it maintenance or just conserving water/saving money? I get that it requires upkeep and that it's a somewhat seasonal attraction but I question what extensive maintenance actually need be done annually.

When the park's so few on rides, seems like they should keep it open. Would it be feasible to lower water level and turn off effects that would otherwise splash guests during the Spring/Summer run? Maybe an alternate show could be attainable?

it's definitely maintenance - this has been going on forever with Disney water rides and it's just Disney - water rides at other theme parks go down more often than non-water rides as they need more regular upkeep and the water has to be drained to do it. Obviously they generally do it in the winter months as the ride is less in demand, just moving this one up a bit so back up when Dino is down

The disrespect for the destructive power of water by some of you is impressive. This is the substance that created the Grand Canyon, grinds mountains to nothing, and constantly washes human structures away. Metal rusts, even the metal in concrete, concrete cracks and there is of course organisms living in the fluid and the corrosive chemicals added to it to kill said organisms that cause their own problems. The frequent closings are very much needed.

I really don't get how it needs a multi month refurb every year. Didn't it just finish one in March? Only 6 months ago? Now it needs another? Also, there is going to be more demand in October than there is in Jan/Feb. Normally cooler air does not settle in until Halloween or so.

which is why it normally goes down in Jan/Feb but if they did that it would be down when Dino closes so unless they want to push off the Dino close (which then potentially pushes back the Tropical Americas opening) they needed to move this up

There definitely was talk years back that the three month closure became more of a cost saving measure than a necessity. If you look back at the refurb history, it went for about 10 years with just a couple of weeks closure each year.

Yes for me coming from the UK in November Florida feels significantly warmer than home!
Shame that Kali will now be closed on our trip, but I'll get soaked at Islands of Adventure and Seaworld!

It must be, at the very least, 20 years since I last visited Seaworld. Do the have a ride that tends to get people wet? I do remember many people getting soaked the the whale show and even at the dolphin show.
