Kind of interesting that Monsters Inc will be the first expansion outside the Studios berm since then…
It seems it’s easier/cheaper to expand into paved/parking areas.
As for the selection of the IP, someone did some slideshow presentation and convinced somebody.
The door coaster will sell a load of LLs because it’s new.

A berm is a specific type of landscape feature, not just a perimeter. None of the parks at Walt Disney World are encircled by a berm. Magic Kingdom is the only park with a berm that is not a localized landscape feature and even it only partially encircles the park.

And all of DCA was built on a former parking lot. Some imagineers preferred it that way. Iykyk!
To be honest, after they fixed it in 2012 I would disagree. Regarding everything that has happened since Tower was turned into an oil rig, Yes, a parking lot would be preferable.

Yes! We used to live in SoCal and frequented Disneyland in the years way before DCA was even thought of (80's). It was so strange visiting earlier this year for the first time in a LONG time and seeing DCA instead of the parking lot.

2015 was probably the peak seeing as how that was when Condor Flats was absorbed into Grizzly Peak and Soarin' was still the California version as thematically appropriate for the park.
2015 was the year we returned to Disneyland after a 10 year absence for my high school graduation trip. I chose Disneyland because of the redone DCA (Cars Land, etc), and I was fully hooked. We loved our trip there that year. I chose to return in 2019 (the last time I was there) for my college graduation trip to see Galaxy's Edge (minus Rise unfortunately), and (while we still enjoyed the trip) Pixar Pier and Guardians Tower were big blights. Aladdin being gone was a huge disappointment too.

I apologize if this was mentioned already, but the more I look at the aerial photos of the footprint the more perplexed I get ...as it seems Monsters Coaster is going to be so particularly far-away from the rest of what will become MonstersLand? That seems like quite a long walk for the guest to make from everything else.

That's a good thing.

The Ratatouille square is jam packed with guests because the ride is bringing in 2,000 guests per hour.

The same crowding happens in TSL, too. The attractions bring in more guests than comfortably fit.

I applaud a much larger square in front of an attraction.
