MK All-New Nighttime Parade Disney Starlight Set to Debut at Magic Kingdom in 2025

Okay, got around to seeing it now.

It's not something so bad that I will actively avoid it like Harmonious. I haven't seen one of these since I was 10, but I was looking in here beforehand so I knew going in that there's normally significantly more in these things.

It was fine, entertaining for 14 minutes. If I was in the park at night again I might see it. I listened to the soundtrack a couple of times afterwards but it's already losing its luster. It was nice being able to ditch immediately after some nighttime entertainment and not get caught in the fireworks mob.

I'm reading through the thread now and will try to avoid repeating comments:

- The princess float is supposed to be just four couples? There was so much room around Aurora and Philip I thought some performers called out, but then the remaining princess options showed up in the end float (except Ariel, but you guys say she's not in this). Was there rotating choreography I didn't see?

- There's an already discussed pile of reasons Wish shouldn't be here, and following the Blue Fairy starting the parade that wants you to find the concept of wishing on stars magical and special with a movie that's blatantly trying to be a metaphor against that concept adds to that pile of reasons.

- People seem to feel they had to have a Main Street Electrical Parade nod, and I'm not saying they shouldn't have referenced it at all, but making the entire end float a remix of a previous parade just gives the impression you don't have faith in your own music. It's the grand finale and they want me thinking about a different parade?

I mean, it was the most memorable part of the music, but maybe instead they should have come up with something that was their own but just as good and memorable? And maybe years from now people will be eagerly referencing said beautiful music from Starlight that everyone just loves?

If you watched it last night Tana and Naveen were missing during the 9 PM show.

Really? I don't get that vibe at all, the main original theme is woven throughout the entire parade including in the last unit. I think having "Baroque Hoedown" at the end was a great fun callback to MSEP, it's a great version of it too.

Makes sense! Thanks

It's the end of the parade; the end is going to be one of the most important parts because it's the last thing people see and so naturally going to color their impressions more than something ten minutes ago. It should be the part where the music really pulls out all the stops to make sure your final impression is "wow, that was great".

I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir and you know that already. And I'm sure someone involved in this knew that, too.

There are infinite ways they could do that, music-wise, and they chose to recycle music from a previous parade instead of coming up with something that would make their parade stand on its own. It makes an enjoyable end, but not because of Starlight. They chose to have their last impression be "Remember MSEP?" instead of making sure you would always remember Starlight, and that didn't make a good impression to me. A brief nod would be one thing, but they have at least equal time in there.

Also, MSEP music is great and I know a lot of people have wonderful memories of it, but I don't, and having the finale of the parade I got to show up for be "man, wasn't the other parade you didn't get to see really something?" isn't what I was hoping for out of a climax. I get enough of that in Epcot.

I just wanted more SpectroMagic in this parade. It's not there. Not enough, anyway.
When I saw it in person, I thought it felt MUCH MORE like the spiritual successor to Spectro and not MSEP. It has some “Baroque Hoedown”, but the Starlight theme sounds much more like Spectro’s instrumentals. The color-changing, the Starlight logo, the princess unit, finale unit style, and Jiminy at the end all remind me of Spectro.

The only thing missing is smaller floats between certain sections and original characters that interacted with guests. Sure Whimsy is an original character for the parade but he doesn't cut it, the Spectromen while creepy were one of the more memorable parades of Spectromagic.

But Whimsy is an original character.

There's nothing special about him. I don't hate Whimsy, but his presence in the parade doesn't contribute anything.
Yeah, Disney gave a lot of buildup and fanfare to Whimsy's arrival despite only appearing during the parade's finale (which is very short). Now if there were more walkaround original characters scattered across the parade then I wouldn't mind it. Spectromagic had a group of Spectromen who played a prominent role during the parade's opening section with Mickey Mouse and sat on small floats that moved across the parade route.

Finally saw the parade in person last night after ducking and dodging photos & videos for a month. Here is my takes:
  • Music: I was hoping for a more orchestral vibe like SpectroMagic. The intro hints at it, but then it shifts more to the main underscore/boppy soundtrack. It’s fun, but I still wish Spectro got more acknowledgment since MSEP wasn’t even a Florida original.
  • Blue Fairy: My first reaction was “Wow she’s huge!” Definitely one of the tallest floats I’ve seen. Loved the reveal with Pinocchio & Geppetto.
  • Wish: Can’t believe Disney gave that movie the tiniest, least detailed float 🙄. I’m in the minority that likes the film, so it was kind of disappointing.
  • Encanto: Bruno’s speaking lines were great and Isabella’s swing was a nice touch.
  • Frozen: Only Elsa on the float was surprising, but the smoke/wind effects on her dress looked awesome.
  • Princesses: One of my favorites, that float is massive — had to zoom out on my camera just to capture it. Loved how it changes colors with each princess song, and the dancers’ dresses were gorgeous. Definitely felt inspired by the classic Cinderella float from MSEP.
  • Coco: Forgot this float was even coming, and honestly expected more color/detail. The firework lights above were a nice touch though.
  • Moana: Huge float and also my favorite. Loved the manta ray reveal — the float really nailed the “Starlight” vibe.
  • Peter Pan: Cute float with lots of dialogue. Can’t wait until they actually get the characters flying, that’ll be epic.
  • Finale: Wish it had been a two-parter and more of a tribute to MSEP and Spectro. Still love the little train and Jiminy on the back (though why is the title float at the end??).
Overall: The parade feels very blue and could use more vibrance. Not much happening between floats either, which is why Paint the Night is still the top night parade for me. That said, I love the “magic moment” each float gets when the music crescendos, and I’m just glad MK finally has a night parade again. Still not sure if I like it more than Spectro, but hopefully one more viewing will help me decide.

Have to disagree about Coco, it may not be as large as some of the other floats, but its full of color and details. Aside from the finale its one of the liveliest units in the parade and full of energy and lights and well done.

The Starlight theme is good and the finale music… unfortunately the only good parts of the entire soundtrack sadly to say. Said it before and I’ll say it again lyrics would have greatly helped Starlights soundtrack. I think we would have been better off with something like that fan made soundtrack.

I disagree with this statement, but I do like the fan concept soundtrack. What Dreams are Made Of would have been cool deep cut pick.
