I do think PTN has way more of a beat to it than Starlight. I will say when I first saw Starlight I was not expecting a beat at all. A part of me thinks the beat was not the original plan and was added in later on.

What bothers me is the MSEP fanfare, not because I don’t like it but it’s just odd. It 100% sounds like it was added last minute.

Overall I like the Starlight theme and the finale Baroque Hoedown. The rest is just not catchy and not memorable at all. I keep saying I think lyrics would have helped.
Personally I really like the Starlight theme and think it's very catchy, there's a really nice blend of the orchestral and electronic. I wouldn't mind if they added lyrics but I think it works the way it is. I really only heavily notice the beat in the opening unit. I think a good example of the blend is the Peter Pan unit, and the Princess unit is very orchestral.

All the Loops are well done but Peter Pan is really Good! :) IF MK wanted to Refresh Starlight, put Spectro somewhere in there!!! At Least the Fanfare! It was So Nice when the DJ played it on NYE 2023-2024!!!

It makes me wonder what they were trying to go at for the music. I don't think it's bad, but I agree it's not as strong a score because it feels lost between orchestra and techno whereas shows like Paint the Night or Spectro embrace their genres a bit more. The MSEP fanfare I think was added just for the nostalgia factor with how obvious it is in the score. PTN referenced it better in the score because it was subtle.

Its scary they spent all this time on a night parade people were yearning for and this was the best they were able to come up with. No insider wants to say what was or wasnt cut so its tough to judge fully but as the finished product is here and more and more people i speak with who have seen it. Noone has been wowed in comparison to past parades or even as some being the 1st time seeing a Disney night parade

I think part of the problem is they thought a different concept was the way to go instead of just building a new version of Spectromagic or even MSEP. They should have kept the concepts they know that worked and rebuilt them in a modern way. That’s what Tokyo did with Dreamlights and it’s been very successful for so many years. While Paint The Night is not great it worked and became popular because it’s fun and a party parade which today’s audiences love that. PTNs soundtrack also has Baroque Hoedown mixed in throughout which is nice. They could have done something like that with Starlight or used some Spectro music.

That’s more a matter of opinion, not the fault of the parade.
Of course it's an opinion! In my opinion, the beat shouldn't be there.

Exactly this. They really should have created a NEW SpectroMagic.

I do honestly wonder if they even could rebuild Spectro, and not completely butcher it. No idea what the budget was back in the day but I have to imagine Spectro was not cheap.

They could redo Starlight into a new MSEP, but it would take a little bit of work and more $ but not majorly. They would need to rebuild Whimsy and or Casey Jr… add a drum like PTNs. Build a new float or two from MSEP, Alice and the bugs definitely and build a new Small World float for the finale. For the music use the orchestral version of Baroque Hoedown like the finale in Starlight.

This probably would've been a better homage and presentation, but not even Starlight went to its full potential and this was completely new and designed for itself. A Dreamlights version of Spectro I can only assume had to be brought up during bluesky meetings, but Starlight was definitely a cheaper alternative for them. I think it's easier for them to do something completely new that sets its own limitations and does its own thing than it trying to be something it isn't, which would've been the case. At least Starlight is a bit salvageable and not a complete loss that it would need to be scrapped entirely.

Spectromagic in my opinion perfectly captured the "Disney Magic'' the most compared to previous electrical parades. The parade alongside Fantillusion was created back when Disney treated their day and nighttime parades as seriously as their attractions. Both parades had tons of effort put into them which really shows for the amount of floats and lighting patterns.

Since Starlight is handled by a different generation of Imagineers. You can tell how different Starlight looks and feels. Sure first time visitors will love it, but for older WDW fans, the contrast to Spectromagic is more notable (lack of supporting characters and smaller floats for example).

Let me start off by saying it's better than nothing so it's hard to be critical.

Having said that it's not my favorite but the foundation is there to be a really really good parade. The floats are spectacular but the music is kinda meh. It almost sounds like a mish mash of Main Street Electrical and the Electrical Water Pagent.

2 things I would like to see improved. 1. Has already been mentioned, but the units in between floats need some help. Good units between floats can be just as interesting such as the grave diggers in the boo to you. 2. More crowd interaction. A lot of choreographed scenes. While well done, sometimes the crowd just wants to be waved at.

But again, kudos to Disney for bringing back a nighttime parade.

It’s kinda sad the one of the most common descriptions of this parade has been

“It’s better than nothing”.

I’m curious what feedback Disney is getting though. That’s what really matters and if they are seeing any positive guest satisfaction and especially an increase in spending then they will not be touching Starlight for a very very long time.

i can only speak to the one time I saw it which was a week ago - the crowd reactions were very positive with people starting to line up more than 2 hours ago. just a lot of energy in the crowd and really strong reaction to all the floats

now, is that because it is Starlight specifically or because it is a Night Time Show in any form, I can't say but interest seems to be there, at least for the 9pm show

I am sure they are getting feedback back but I also think it will take some time to shake out and see how long the interest lasts, still pretty new
