EPCOT Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

I got to go back to Epic Universe this weekend, and I stayed to see the "goodbye" show in Celestial Park. I had no idea the entire area was synced like this - and it now makes sense why so much of the lighting looks a bit plastic during the day. The show literally takes place from the main fountain all the way to the main entrance. Much of the lighting on rooftops, light poles and - yes - in the ground is part of the show. I watched the show by walking from the fountain back to the main entrance, literally surrounded by it. It was one of the more impressive pieces of theme park immersion I've seen in a long time.

It made me really sad to think what EPCOT could/should have been - given that they had the same amount of time and arguably even more creative power than the "folks" down the street.

While the show itself isn't perfect and it does just happen once a day, I would highly recommend anyone who likes the idea of Celebration Garden's lighting to stay for the final show should you find yourself at Epic Universe.

I still can’t get past the fact that despite SSE being used in Luminous, they don’t play the show music through the central spine. Just feels like such a huge miss to have a great view still from back there and not use the infrastructure to take advantage of that. Heck, if you stand around the monorail beam you’ve already started to lose volume from the show. I can’t think of a single good reason to not have the music back up to SSE (I won’t even mention also using the theoretically impressive lighting package of the area with the show since it hardly works yet).

To be fair, I remember thinking that back in the ROE days, Future World area loops would continue during ROE and then suddenly the whole park would play Promise and ToN.

While I don't have any insider knowledge, the main issue I see (referencing Celestial Park again) is the lack of a cohesive design. While there are gaps and flaws, it's hard to argue that Epic Universe doesn't have a cohesive and consistent design focus and perspective. Much like EPCOT Center and DAK, the park itself has a clear story. I don't raise this as semantics. Rather, that means there is either a person/team in charge of making that happen. Or, there is a clear directive that everyone checks in to ensure that consistency stays. From what I understand, Disney Parks don't have that level of centralized narrative control anymore - outside of maybe a high level, conceptual "owner". I think that shows in the revamps of EPCOT (and MK, arguably - though it's probably more the owner of a "land" there).

Man, we walked by the central planter the other day. That is terrible show. There are screws everywhere and they are all painted white, I guess to help them blend in lol. Some are flush, while others are slightly angled. It looks so bad. Guarantee Joe Rohde threw up in his mouth when he saw that during that little tour he was giving. That entire area needs to be redone. We were in GEO-82 having a drink before our dinner ressies, and I was looking out of the windows thinking how nice a fountain would look. That was such a big, dumb miss on their part.

Will they ever put in a fountain again?

"They WON'T!"

But as I have been told, "they added Journey Of Water....so they don't need the fountain...."
So Journey Of Water is part of the Seas Pavilion, or it is the centerpiece of World Celebration depending on who is telling the story...

I'm not a fan of that planter by any means, seems like a waste of space. However I think a fountain there wouldn't fit either. I loved the lightning package when it worked. I hope it returns in some way.

I actually agree the central planter needs an art piece (kinetic), not a fountain. I just don't think there's space for a fountain that add the right type of kinetics.

Now, the absolutely pointless, large planter just south of the central planter/garden could sure use an interesting fountain/water feature, though...

This is a nice addition 👍. Its not 1 to 1 the same, but the palm trees do bring it closer to the opening day look.

It is amazing to me that they got the new entrance so right when they got the rest of the park so wrong. It's almost as if two completely different groups one in charge of the entrance and another one with everything else.
