MK Prairie Outpost in Frontierland to reopen soon as a hat shop

It appears Disney is preparing to reopen Prairie Outpost & Supply as a place to shop for headwear simply called Prairie Outpost. No opening timeframe has been shared, but Disney says the location is "Coming Soon".

This was a confectionary shop pre pandemic and never reopened. Interesting thing is there used to be a hat shop way way back on the side of the diamond horseshoe, however prairie outpost is larger. Seems like it might be a third party shop, but anything that adds more interest/something to do is better than a closed shop.

ETA I hope they paint the wall before it opens.

Love it. And I’m okay with Disney making some money but please don’t sell a $60 hat for $299.

Chapel isn’t bad. I’ve gotten wool flat caps for nominal mark up there. Nothing wrong with selling a $60 hat for $70-$75. On the other hand I’ve seen some hats at Chapel with astronomical mark up.

I used to impulse buy at Disney all the time. Sadly, not anymore.

Do they have a pipeline to coming fashion trends? I mean hats are not commonly worn outside of ball caps and the odd hipster are they?

I'm guessing it's going to have a small section of hats that look like those, then a ton of ears and baseball caps.

I'm good with this - particularly if it looks/feels like a shop of the time and place, not a modern hat shop selling old school hats. I like small details that aren't crucial but add to the overall theme.

Like sunglasses hut in Adventureland I feel like this is more about brand exposure than sales alone. Saying that, chapel hats has been a long time tenant so there must be a market for them. After this reopens I think the only thing left that never returned is Agrabah Bazar, The Newsstand, and Mickey’s Gift Station (don’t see that coming back ever with how security is set up now). DHS continues to be the worst culprit for closed retail.

If the recently installed hat rack at my church is any indication, hats seem to be making a comeback. It's now completely full and they're going to install another one. So Disney may be on to something.
