Tom Sawyer Island's Imminent Removal

Well Dis has anticipated the closure for a while so any feature that is not in shape or is failing to work right wasn’t going to be fixed since it would be a waste of time and money. But Dis takes forever to attend to any attraction needs anyway.
Maintenance costs money in parts and labour to install which cuts into profits and Bob is all about maximizing profits

Of course, that's what I meant. I apologize if it was unclear. I was saying that, for me, these weren't beloved attractions but I can understand for others that this sucks.
So sorry…. I completely misread it as “I feel bad for the crazy people that actually liked this” - that was my bad.

I was the same way for off kilter - I was never a fan, personally, but I knew cutting them meant cuts to things I do love like world showcase players.

That's me and Muppets. I don't care for the attraction, but I am sad that quality shows are being dismantled and can understand the fans' feelings about it.

I'm not that upset about the loss of TSI. I felt it did need updated. I'm more upset about the direction Disney is taking the parks. It looks like they are just going to put random rides and attractions wherever as long as they are IP and abandon the theme of the park/land. Which is what made MK popular and above all the rest.

Don't get me wrong I think Guardians of the Galaxy is a great ride. It just didn't belong in EPCOT. Just like Cars doesn't beong in Frontierland.

They might as well take start taking down the signs that say ----land because the more they mix non themed attractions in with what's there, they are no longer specific to the theme and can be called
---land. I used to enjoy the unique differences I encountered as I walked from one area to the next.
Once they started just plopping in any old attraction because it needed a spot to be in without thinking about the cohesiveness of the land it no longer mattered. I think the majority of guests don't care about the lay out of the parks, they just want more rides no matter where they are, so why should Dis care?

So there is a closing date. The seventh of July. We are arriving from the Netherlands on July 14th and my heart is broken a little bit. I was hoping to run around one last time with our son. Just like I used to do with my brother. And to hop on the Liberty Belle and enjoy one last voyage.
Somehow the closing of this whole area bothers me so much. I think because for me it has the original Disney feeling. The general adventure and fantasy found in a place that is not pre-themed for you.
Do other people feel like this as well?
I feel exactly like you do. It is very sad to me, and done in the name of progress. These attractions have been popular for years and have continued to be popular. I wish they had put the Cars land in another area. They do have a lot of land to build on, so why don't they use that instead of getting rid of the classics. It's also nice to take a break on Tom Sawyers Island and the paddleboat. Everything doesn't have to be an IP. We also enjoyed the free shooting gallery.
I'm not against new attractions, but please put them in other places or build new ones on their unused land. These will be sorely missed by many.

I am nostalgic for TSI…feels like the 70s WDW I visited as a kid. I’m actually hoping to make a quick trip from Boston to see it before it closes. We were there in April, but didn’t realize it was closing (we did do the riverboat). Had I known I would have insisted. I wonder if they will do anything special on the last day?

I can relate, down to every single word.

I'm gutted, devastated. I, too, have great memories of endlessly exploring TSI with my siblings. To me, the river, boat and island aren't quiet areas for a brief respite from the excitement of the MK. To me, they *are* the MK.

Like ripping out Main Street for an Incredibles ride.

I feel the same way, And they don't even have to rip it out. They could just use some of their wide expanse of land and leave this classic alone! I don't like the way they have been ripping up classics and replacing them with IP. It isn't like they can't use the land they have vacant. It's all about saving money in the end.
