Captain Compasspoint at SeaWorld Orlando

62bf76984031f06cda0b06d0f44d1324.jpg

As the live animals are increasingly phased out and the last Shamu has already passed, SeaWorld has been increasingly trying to rebrand itself as a coaster park and/or a family theme park with thrill rides.

A new mascot will help with that: Captain Compasspoint a jolly steampunk pirate/explorer sailing across and above the 7 seas.

The Mediterranean sea front area get rebranded as a steampunk port where this happy fellow will call home greeting guests who visit and regailing them with stories from across the seas he's sailed (seas which make the other lands of the park).

Community Chest

A swinging pirate ship flat ride themed to Captain Compasspoint will be added right at the edge of the Lagoon adding some more family friendly thrills to the park

INTRODUCING CELESTE AT UNIVERSAL'S EPIC UNIVERSE

0A7P08N.png

Guests visiting Universal's newest theme park Epic Universe may not know that the park has a mascot unless night falls on the park where they will be introduced to the beautiful, entrancing, otherworldly Celeste surveying the newest piece of the Universal Galaxy.

In the lore of the park, Celeste is summoned toward the park from a far away corner of the Universal Galaxy by the guests' energy throughout the day, finally making her arrival at sunset where she stands at the center of Celestial Park and casts an enchantment that illuminates all of the nighttime lighting in the park.

Guests will see Celeste roaming Celestial Park for the rest of the night wearing a dress designed by Universal Creative that not only is illuminated, but appears to have a whole galaxy swirling inside of it achieved by thousands of fiberoptic lights programmed to a pattern sewn into the dress.

COMMUNITY CHEST

With Celeste proving popular with guests, in the second phase of Epic Universe, Universal will introduce a much needed dark ride positioned behind Stardust Racers called Starveil Odyssey in which guests will board a suspended ride vehicle that appears to be a comet and follow Celeste through the cosmos as she goes in search of another call of energy and light from somewhere far beyond.

I spent almost an hour Photoshopping that dress and it still looks a little off but hopefully you get the vision LMAO

Arriving at Disney's Animal Kingdom on Earth Day 2028 just in time for its 30th anniversary is the park's new mascot: Vita, the embodiment of life on Planet Earth.

Inspired by folkloric tales of entities like Gaia, Mother Earth, shamans, and other guardians of life on the planet, Vita's design is meant to emulate both power and beauty, featuring designs from all of the kingdoms of life including a pair of antlers atop her head of cascading hair that animals can nest in, a crown of mushrooms and branches and vines adorning her head, and a dress that emulates the Tree of Life itself with the faces of animals woven into it.

Now appearing on merchandise such as pins, shirts, and other items as well as featuring in a meet and greet in a grove by the Tree of Life nearby the Galapagos tortoise enclosure, Vita's role in the park is to celebrate the diversity of life and the forces of nature that keep all living things in balance with one another, beautifully exemplifying the park's mission statement.

Community Chest

After the online outrage about Zootopia 2's many controversies (seriously, did we need THAT scene?) the Tree of Life Zootopia show has been officially cancelled and replaced with Earth: An Environmental Fable where an audio animatronic Vita paired with wonderful footage of nature taken by the DisneyNature team shows guests the beauty of nature and why our planet is worth protecting.

Henry Auto Mobileworth

IMG_1865.jpeg

(Image of Henry Ford for visualization, as I’m too busy to draw a picture.)

For its upcoming redo, Test Track at EPCOT has gotten a new mascot, by the name of Henry Auto Mobileworth, a person who specializes in the world of cars. His backstory is that he is from the early days of the age of the automobile, before he accidentally made a car that time traveled to the Test Track 3.0/Our timeline, & therefore, he decided to go back through the history of cars, & bring them to our timeline to remind us of how much development we’ve made, & how we can make more progress in the future (Back To The Future similarities, I know). Another thing with his time travel backstory I would like to point out is that he is the reason Test Track 3.0 has many callbacks to World Of Motion, as he is also the main character of the new ride.

Community Chest

Next to Test Track, Henry’s house is added, as an interactive play area & museum about cars (This also retains the build-your-own-car feature from Test Track 2.0, as I miss the creativity that feature had).

gary the grizzly bear!

IMG_4063.jpeg

Coming to
DCA is its new, enthusiastic, and adventurous mascot: Gary the Grizzly Bear, a backpacking grizzly bear who shows up in multiple locations throughout the park wearing a variety of costumes (but he NEVER goes anywhere without his trusty top hat)! The story goes - after having hitchhiked (on accident) ontop a logger's truck far away from the beauty of Grizzly Peak, the poor bear lost in the middle of Northern California was granted by Queen Califia, the protector of California, a special gift: to be able to backpack (teleport) anywhere he chooses across California and interact with its people! Gary is known for his quirky and adventurous personality (similar to that of an 80's Californian hitchhiker), and loves all types of music - play your favorite song to him and he'll groove to it - but play an 80's pop rock or hyphy song and he'll go WILD!

Community Chest: Grizzly Peak finally gets its much needed Autopia-style dark ride, Gary's Road Trip Rumble, where titular character Gary the Grizzly Bear joins guests on a low-stakes adventure through the forest of the land, encountering many Californian landmarks on the way.

Theophilus Blackgang and the Dawdling Dodos
Smuggler.jpg

Introducing Theophilus Blackgang, the new (and slightly old) mascot of Blackgang Chine, the UK's oldest theme park located on the Isle of Wight! A larger than life smuggler, Theophilus spent his days prowling the shores and cliffs of the island to transport and sell his wares, until learning an ancient song that allowed him to reach through time and bring items, people, and even places to his chine to share in his wealth and sense of adventure. The first of these were the dawdling dodos, dim-witted by adventurous birds who serve as Theophilus' companions - bringing forth fairies, bogarts, cowboys, sea life, and dinosaurs into the realm of Blackgang Chine!

Community Chest: Smuggler's Bounty
An interactive adventure akin to those found in Disney parks, where guests are given enchanted "smuggler sticks" to awaken lanterns around the park for special interactions that ultimately lead to Blackgang's hidden fortune.

Note: I didn't have time to do artwork, but the park does have the smuggler as a mascot of sorts, so it made sense to make it official. My mum's side of the family originate from the Isle of Wight. Theophilus' name comes from one of my great-grandmother's ancestors named Theophilus Winter!

Dolly the Dolphin at Tokyo DisneySea
DB1FBE05-81F7-4FD9-8211-0984B4C6E2AD.jpeg

Dolly the Dolphin since her childhood had a desire to travel the world. One day the adventurer Sindbad and his tiger Chandu invited her to come to Tokyo to serve as a tour guide for all of the ports of call at Tokyo DisneySea. As a friendly and well-traveled dolphin, she is well-suited to help guests of all ages enjoy the park fully while also bringing awareness to Japan to ethically care for dolphins.

Community Chest: Dolly and her friends have been given a new spinner ride called Dancing Dolphins near Tinkerbell’s Busy Buggies in Fantasy Springs.

didn't have time to draw a pic of her, but two characters I imagine she'd look like - at least in illustrated form - are Lizzie McGuire and/or Penny Proud (The Proud Family)
The “Tinker Bell” of Disney’s California Adventure, if you will, Cali is a spirited, go-getting SoCal local who aspires to hit it big in Hollywood...but for now, she’s content with hanging out and about the park on a California adventure of her own!

Tennessee Avenue Reviews

Thanks to all who put themselves out there with artwork this round, even if you’re not a huge artist! Reviews were tricky to write for this round, but we’ll be going back to a more traditional (and easier to judge) prompt next round.

LeRoy the Lion

@Brer Panther

This is a lovely way to pay homage to the history of this park! Naming him after the statue’s designer is a wonderful detail, and I love the fact that he’s a big fan of water. You’ve done an admirable job of showcasing the multiple facets of this park through one character!

Community Chest: A great way of repurposing an area of the park to fit this new character!

Clappy the Clapboard

@Tegan pilots a chicken

Clappy is adorable! An all-around great fit for DHS in both mission and tone, he would surely become a fan favorite, and fast.

Community Chest: Hollywood Studios desperately needs a thesis attraction, and you’ve crafted exactly that!

Jeffery

@Lord Fozzinator

Huh! I don’t like mosquitos either, but this is an unmatched level of hatred! I’ve certainly encountered a few Jeffreys already this summer.

Community Chest: With the Bugs going away, this would be the perfect way to keep that area of the Animal Kingdom in the park.

Daw Pizza

@Disgruntled Walt

I’m from Joisey, so I’ve got a decent idea of the pronunciation you intend here! I strongly approve of this roast (or bake, in a pizza oven?) of DAW. And this is some wonderfully terrifying character design.

Community Chest: I’m always down for a PeopleMover!

Seymour Seals

@MickeyMousketeer

Sea World could certainly use a new mascot, given the retirement of Shamu, and Seymour Seals would be a great new icon for the park. I love his lil’ top hat!

Community Chest: This would fill an important niche in Sea World’s attraction lineup!

Filmore

@Orange-Bird

I’ll start by saying that this is some of the best character design of this round - Filmore is ridiculously cute, and well designed. I would say that the description is a little jumbled, and I would recommend giving a once-over to write-ups going forward. Still, this is nicely done!

Community Chest: I don’t love the studio tour concept in general, but Filmore would make it excellent!

Sandy the Sand Serpent

@Disney Warrior

This is kind of the polar opposite of Jeffrey’s message, which is nice! Her colors and overall temperament would be a great fit for BGT.

Community Chest: Another great way to fill a hole in a lineup!

Cal

@OvertheHorizon

I applaud you for creating original art, even if it perhaps didn’t end up where you wanted it! I love the Mary Poppins pun, and the details about his backstory. I’d buy that popcorn bucket!

Community Chest: I was wondering what park he’d be the mascot of! Sounds like a potential comeback for Earlie the Pearlie?

Abby the Augerino

@Lizzy May Bee

Abby is adorable! Both the design and description are inspired. And the statue is a nice touch!

Community Chest: I don’t know much about Elitch, but I love a good roller coaster!

Captain Compasspoint

@Pi on my Cake

I’m in love with the idea of retheming Sea World’s Mediterranean area to something far more distinct. Although the picture is a bit terrifying, this pirate would be an excellent addition to Sea World’s brand!

Community Chest: I feel that there’s not enough well-themed versions of this flat ride, so I’d be excited to see what Sea World might do with it!

Celeste

@Mr. Sullivan

This is a beautiful photoshop job - don’t worry, your vision came through and then some! The backstory is wonderfully conceived, and her costume would quickly become iconic. My only concern is that Epic Universe closes very quickly after sunset, but I think that’s more of a Universal problem than a you problem!

Community Chest: Another excellent diagnosis and application of something Epic Universe could really use!

Vita

@PerGron

The Earth Mother is one of my favorite common mythological themes, up there with the creation of the sun and the flood story. Vita would be a beautiful fit for both the park’s aesthetics and its mission statement. I can only imagine the wonderful art fans would be inspired to create!

Community Chest: … say what, now? I’d love to see this show in the real AK!

Henry Auto Mobileworth

@Half/CartoonHalf/Human

With Test Track 3 opening soon, H. A. Mobileworth would make a great host for the ride. I’m curious if he would be more of a Bill McKim figure, or more of a Dreamfinder? An excellent fit for this attraction either way!

Community Chest: This is a fitting way to carry that interactive element forward!

Gary the Grizzly Bear

@Architectural Guinea Pig

I love this artwork - it’s adorable! Spotting Gary would certainly become a fan-favorite easter egg hunt, perhaps on par with hidden Mickeys. And a revival of my girl Queen Califia is a whimsical and distinctly Californian touch!

Community Chest: Yes, please, and thank you!

Theophilus Blackgang and the Dawdling Dodos

@Evilgidgit

I’m not familiar with Blackgang Chine, so thank you for introducing me to a park I hadn’t heard of! The backstory is both adventurous and tangible, which makes for a wonderful balance. An overall charming character!

Community Chest: The Pirate Adventure interactive in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland is/was one of my favorite things in any theme park, and I applaud anything in that vein.

Dolly the Dolphin

@ThemeParkPriest

Another character to join Sinbad and Chandu would be wonderful. With that said, I do worry that the existence of those two makes Dolly a bit redundant, but her being the mascot of the entire park instead of one area makes Dolly unique!

Community Chest: More capacity for Fantasy Springs is a-ok in my book!

Cali

@WaltWiz1901

Another mascot for California Adventure! This reminds me of that one pitch from Citrus Dreamin’, back when I was lurking over here. A bit of a creatively retro inclusion!

Community Chest: With Rogers: The Musical closing almost a year ago (!), DCA is strapped for live entertainment. I love it!

Results

The thought and care put into each and every character in this round shone through, making this incredibly difficult to review and judge. In the end, though, a few stood out...

Honorable Mentions

Vita & Celeste

@PerGron & @Mr. Sullivan

Both of these characters would be earnest and exemplary fits for these two parks. Just beautiful submissions overall!

The Terrier

Daw Pizza

@Disgruntled Walt

With just enough of last round's insanity bleeding in, this vicious-yet-cute design makes me laugh, and paid off! His total lack of real-world application does hinder him, but what a character this is!

The Automobile

Filmore

@Orange-Bird

Quite possibly the best piece of artwork we saw this round. The description holds it back a tiny bit, but this was an overall very strong showing.

The Top Hat

Gary the Grizzly Bear

@Architectural Guinea Pig

An excellent marriage of description and artwork. I love 'em!

Electric Company

When it comes to well-themed intense roller coasters, Universal has the Monopoly. Disney’s reputation simply doesn’t include scream machines, made to thrill and excite. That is, until today! Your challenge?

Add a intense but well-themed roller coaster to the Disney park of your choosing

This prompt is due on Sunday the 8th at 12:00 AM Disneyland Time (PST)

Tips ‘n’ Tricks

A well-themed roller coaster is difficult to execute properly. For consistent results, aim for an elaborate queue, an in-universe justification for the roller coaster’s existence, and a thematically appropriate environment for the coaster to run through. By “intense”, I do mean intense; err towards Velocicoaster, not Big Thunder Mountain.

Community Chest Bonus Point

In an extra sentence, state the manufacturer and model of your roller coaster!

Mount Fuji Thrill

Guardians of the Galaxy has proven that speed and thrills can stand side-by-side with education, culture, and tradition, and so it’s time to bring a long-awaited coaster to the Japanese pavilion at Epcot, housed inside a replica of Mt. Fuji. The storyline is that Mt. Fuji, dormant for more than 300 years, is threatening to erupt and guests must board a special vehicle to quickly escape the coming destruction. The experience begins in the staid museum at the back of the pavilion as rumbles are heard, frantic overhead announcements made, and guests ushered toward a system of underground tunnels (the queue) to make their escape, eventually boarding a coaster for a thrill ride past a now-active volcano but that ultimately ends in safety.

COMMUNITY CHEST: This ride will use Vekoma’s Invertigo model, an inverted version of their Boomerang coaster that will be housed entirely indoors and even extend behind The American Adventure building.
