Happy Memorial Day to those who celebrate! While today is traditionally for remembering service members and whatnot, I think it’s the perfect day for this…

Question of the Day
What is your favorite memory you have from a theme park? Maybe a childhood memory or maybe a first time on an attraction?

For me, it’s got to be from my first time doing the Wild Africa Trek at Animal Kingdom. I had the amazing opportunity to do it entirely solo, just me and my dad and nobody else so we got to really experience a personalized tour of the savannah and I got some great one-on-one time with the guides to ask all my animal kingdom questions.
Lots of Disney answers I could give, but just to switch things up I'll give a Busch Gardens Tampa shout out.

Perhaps my earliest memory period is on this kiddie motorcycle ride they used to have (or maybe still have, I haven't been in years). It was sort of like a really tiny toddler size music express flat ride but with motorcycles. I remember it was night and my family was cheering me on and it felt like I was flying as the lights went by in a blur. Real fuzzy early childhood toddler memory but one that was pure theme park magic

Two options here: either riding Space Mountain over and over and over with my brother when I was probably 8 or 9, or similarly marathoning Everest during evening EMH (probably rode it 6 or 7 times until closing) with night rides. So good.

I remember being terrified of Steamboat Mickey when I was toddler. I was crying and hiding (I still remember the perpetual fear of the dark boat lol) behind my mom while my sister happily took a photo:

my other memory that I don’t remember (as told by my parents) was riding Winnie the Pooh ~20 times on loop with my mom while my sister and dad braved Splash!

Getting to see Splash Mountain break down at Disneyland one time

In honor of a round I cut being “design a new highly themed trash can,” what’s your favorite themed piece of infrastructure at any theme park? It could be a bench, a water fountain, a vending machine, or, of course, a trash can or anything else you can think of.

For me, I’m a sucker for the animal benches at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. They’re a really minor thing that has always stuck out in my mind since my first trip back in 2003. I love the stylized almost “tribal” shapes and patterns that dotted old Animal Kingdom and still hang around in these benches.

I know this is late, but my favorite memory from any of my two visits to WDW happened in Animal Kingdom's Africa when I was younger. So, me and my family were walking away from either Gorilla Falls or Kilimanjaro Safaris en route to Asia when we found ourselves in this huge covered area filled with people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life. I was just kind of walking through when all of a sudden, I heard a man’s voice with a thick accent say, “Hey, do you want to see something cool?” I turned around and saw a tall African man in brightly colored clothes standing next to a table and smiling at me. I said, “Sure, let’s see what you have to show me!” He then pulled an object off of his table that I hadn’t seen before: a fly-whisk. He then told me about how people in his country traditionally used the fly-whisk in dances, demonstrated a short dance with it, and then passed it to me. I then performed a short dance routine with it because I was asked to do so. I then gave the fly-whisk back to the man and thanked him for teaching me about his culture, to which he said “You’re welcome.” Me and my family then continued in our way to Asia to see the bird show, walk the Maharajah Jungle Trek, and eat at Yak and Yeti. I don’t know where that man who showed me the fly-whisk is now, but I hope he knows that he made my day and one of my core memories of the Disney Parks. This is also why Animal Kingdom is one of the best parks I've been to!

I'm not sure if I have a favorite memory at a theme park. I have so many great memories of being at Disney World...

As for my favorite piece of infostructure, I have to agree with @PerGon about the Animal Kingdom benches. Are they still there?

The story could have gone very differently from this point on! 🤣

I do love moments like this though...they almost feel like a dream when you look back on them years later!
