It's just not that great.
I think we’re gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. I think the script is hilarious, the effects still hold up, and you can’t beat the surprise when a real Sweetums comes out into the audience.

It’s one of my favorite attractions and one of my favorite Muppet projects. I’ll definitely be sad to see it go

Me and my fiancee both were terrified by Sweetums running out into the theater as kids. Although now we've adopted "Aw, nothing up there but a bunny! A bunny?! Bean!!" for when we spot a rabbit outside.

I kept hoping for years they would just update the film....a new adventure, same cast....to keep it going...It is so cute and fun... I was always hoping they would do an entire area with multiple Muppets attractions instead of just the film and a lousy pizza place.... boo.

I think the idea of updating the film died with Jim. You’d get backlash if you tried to change it since it was his last project.

IMHO the problem is Waldo. He's annoying (not in an endearing way), looks clunky and dated and is the main "hook" of the story. the peripheral activities are all still awesome and hold up including Sweetums, Bean, Sam Eagle, the cannon, etc. Personally, I'd say if there were a way to modify the show to get rid of Waldo and have some other element then it could definitely be improved and be more timeless. Unfortunately, I don't think that is a realistic option regardless (ignoring it is closing anyway) but the presence of Waldo is definitely what makes the attraction seem old and more in need of replacement (unlike other similar stuff like ITTBAB or Philharmagic). YMMV.

About Sweetums. That requires a Cast Member for every showing. I'm wondering if that factored into Disney's decision making about a replacement.

Waldo may be annoying but modifying the show so that Sweetums doesn't come out could reduce the drain of having a CM for every show.

Is Sweetums an equity performer? If not, it probably wouldn't factor into the decision. Surely, the CM's sole job isn't to just be Sweetums all day.

I mean, since 2017 WDW has gotten Pandora, RoTR, MMRR, Cosmic Rewind, Tron, and Rat. Your mileage may vary with these, but I think it’s a pretty stellar lineup.

I honestly think we need to have some optimism with changes to the parks, or we risk getting burnt out of this hobby we enjoy. I’m really upset that Muppets is closing, it’s my favorite attraction at WDW, but I’m not gonna let that taint my love of the rest of these parks. In the end of the day, it’s still a theme park. It’s a place where we go to forget about our troubles for a few days. If it stops being that, then maybe it’s time to find a new vacation spot.
To me the key word is THEME. The Disney difference was each park being different with different themes. Unfortunately many are ok with the theme of the parks going for IP they grew up with.

I don't mean the same one. But surely CMs could be redirected elsewhere without having to create a shift for them. I'm just thinking of one possible Disney penny-pinching decision to eliminate it.

And nothing SHOULD be sacred. Disney, and any theme park really, is not in the museum business.

Yes, there’s many classic attractions I think they should throw piles of money at to keep around for as long as humanly possible, but eventually it will all have to meet their ends.

Attractions eventually reach the end of their lifespan be it in popularity or physical capability. It’s just the way things are in the amusement industry; there’s no such thing as permanence. Every single one of these attracrions will one day meet their end. It sucks and it’s painful, but that’s part of being a theme park fan.
Then replace them with an attraction that fits the theme of the park. Stop adding IP for the sake of adding IP.

Imma stop you right there. Bean is just as annoying.

MV3D (and sometimes, the Muppets in general) keep forgetting that 'annoying' does not equal 'funny.'

The annoying character works as funny if their annoyances backfire on them, or, they're the bane of a pompous character who needs to be taken down a notch or two.

Bean almost fulfills that role with Miss Piggy's solo. But for the rest of the show, he's an annoyance to everyone, including the audience.

If Stitch is a $1B movie this summer, I'd suspect you'll see a Stitch and Inside Out attraction in 10ish years after Villains is done.

Say Imagination Pavilion where you have Inside Out and Figment. Stitch in Tomorrowland again or in the defunct "Play Pavilion".
There's no if about it, it's gonna hit 400million in it's worldwide opening weekend. It's also going to break the memorial day weekend record.

The car, turning into Mickey. It makes zero sense, and is just plain dumb. Bean is second fiddle stupid compared to Waldo.

Listen, I grew up on Muppets. Loved them. Went to the movies and saw them. But it's time for something else.

TSL has the problem that many of the new 'mini-lands' have (including Potter and Rat and maybe all the portal lands of EU), which is this:

You create a narrow 'alley' for guests to get to popular rides that have a capacity of more than 2,000 people per hour. So, you have more than 2,000 people per hour constantly going in and out of that narrow mini-land.

Potter lands, Rat, and TSL always feel too crowded to me because of this.

The narrowness of the lands come about from lack of space, OR, to avoid sight-line issues. I'd gladly exchange a bad sight-line for the ability to be comfortable in one of these new mini-lands and be able to hang out in them.
Completely agree! There is no where to stop and enjoy TSL because you are always in the walking path. Maybe the bridge to Slinky, I guess, is a little out of the way, but that is it.
