Trip Report Tu in ‘25

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tu in ‘25

These lyrics came to mind when I thought about my trip reporting. (I also thought, Here we go AGAIN but the above sounds much more poignant.) It’s now that time of year when my Disney trips are frequent. And this Disney Senior loves sharing her visits with y’all because your engagement makes it fun!

Yes, there will be stuff that’s the same. Yes, there will be surprises (too soon for the reveals). And yes, there will be sun rises!

Spring break countdown is at 4 days.

Since this intro needs a picture, here are Tu.

Before I conclude this month’s TR with my final thoughts, I want to share a situation that Em had to contend with when we were away.

One that added additional stress as I attempted to recover from a sinus infection while on vacation.

About a week prior to departure, I began to discover my beloved 11-year-old Poly in odd places.

On a game box I forgot to put away….

Not atypical cat behavior, but unusual for her. I had also been finding big tufts of her fur which I attributed to tussling with Kona, our pesky younger one (they have never gotten along.) As y’all know life gets crazy before a vacation so I did not pay much attention to this recent development. (I also did not pay attention to my developing sinus infection, but that’s another story!)

When Woody and I are away, Em comes over to our house daily to care for the cats. The first day she discovered Poly here….

This basket has been in the same spot for Poly’s entire life and she had never climbed in it before.

Over the next couple days Poly would be in hiding and stopped eating. When Em was able to get close to her she noticed injuries where Poly had been gnawing on herself.

Em sent me this close up because she was concerned with the redness on Poly’s mouth.

Em offered to take her to the vet so I secured an appointment for the following day which required Em to leave work early. I was anxious that entire day waiting for Em’s call.

Poly was diagnosed with a skin infection (no dental problems) and was given prednisolone pills - twice a day for 5 days, then once a day for 5 days, then every other day for a month. Em opted to move into our house due to the 2x daily dose (and go back to her house once a day to feed her kitty Astrid.) She is my hero!

The good news is Poly’s appetite quickly returned, she is a champ at taking pills and her wounds are healing nicely. She is back to her normal self and sitting/sleeping in her usual places.

Me? After a second visit to urgent care after I got home - and a different antibiotic which caused nausea - I think I am finally on the mend. Hope to post May’s final thoughts soon.

I am very sorry for you. The stress and anxiety for Poly was enough, but, not being on the correct antibiotic thereby slowing down recovery, then nausea, yikes!
I'm happy there were 2 happy outcomes.
Have an uneventful but lovely summer.

I’m glad that you’re both finally on the mend knowing how upset you were about Poly while we were at WDW! I’m sorry that you ended up having to take another antibiotic once home 😳. Next Disney trip you need to be 100%.

You had my heart in my mouth there...so glad there's a resolution to Poly's behavior. We are having similar issues with our much-loved Rascal, who has taken lately to sitting and sleeping in strange places, and has lost his love of the outdoors...he is 13, so I fear that his sunset is approaching.

My sweetie had to go to urgent care today to get some relief from a stupendously bad year for allergies here in the Northeast...he came home with not only an antibiotic, but a steroid and an inhaler. My allergies are mild in comparison. Glad you are feeling better.

And hooray for Em! 🎉 That is some serious dedication.

Sick furries when you’re away is so stressful!! Glad you’re both on the mend.
Quick recovery for you and Poly!
I hope you and Poly are doing well now.
I’m so happy you and Poly are doing better! I can’t imagine the stress waiting on news, especially out of state 😣

Very familiar with Prednisolone. My golden retriever has bad skin allergies and often takes Prednisone, which is essentially the same drug. After it’s swallowed, it turns into Prednisolone. Only problem is that it can cause her to act a little crazy/dramatic lol and it makes her go #1 very, very frequently. But for the most part, it does a good job. Glad to hear it’s working for Poly.

Glad that Poly takes pills like a big kid cat (this would have been a horror show for either of my kitties) and that you are finally feeling better from your sinus infection
After a disastrous first attempt, Em discovered the secret - a pill pocket combined with a few cat treats. Poly had never had either and the combo was a win!

Thanks, Captain. Goldens are my favorite breed of dog, and I’m sure yours is a beauty!
