This I know. You don’t get what I’m saying. It’s all good.Hygienically speaking? All pirates were dirty. There’s no historical evidence that female pirates were dirtier than male pirates.
Had initially perceived the "The" in the name as being pretentious but it does help solidify it as bonafide place. Without it, it's just a bunch of random words thrown together. "Bar" not being present in the name is a smart choice. It's implied thanks to the Beak/Barrel allereration. That said, I still dislike the name. I think it lacks place-making. But its a minor nitpicky quibble that was fun to type out.
I believe this new pirate is a new character named Merry Goldwyn. Honestly, I'm glad she's not Redd, because I really don't like the US versions of Redd- her face looks weird, and her voice is too identifiable as Grey Griffin (voice actress for hundreds of characters in cartoons from the 90s-present), which takes me out of the experience because I just go "Oh, I know who's voice that is". Paris's Redd is fantastic though! Her face and costume match the art style of the other pirates well, and since it's French I had no clue who her VA was, so my immersion wasn't broken lmao.
On a side note- I'm just now realizing that Redd's US costume takes inspiration from the "Of Things to Come" painting in Dead Man's Grotto, where the Red Head is seen with a belt with pistols and a magenta hat- Redd has the exact same belt and pistols, and a similar magenta hat. Nice touch!
That's a big part of it, yeah. They asked her to do her "kid friendly" voice with a slight accent, rather than any of the tougher voices she's done. The way Redd says "yo-ho" especially feels... soft, cheery, kiddish. I think it'd still be hard to not hear the voice and know its her, but it'd fit better.Grey's been a part of my life for much of it and I love her work. What I dislike is the performance that they asked of her. She's done a lot of voices with edge that she's done over the years but she's putting on a cheery, completely-free-of-vocal-impurities voice that makes me cringe.
I am kind of amazed at how un-themed this area of the world's most visited theme park is. I don't just mean by comparing it to modern standards (Tokyo DisneySea or Epic Universe), I mean even comparing it to the thematic town at the front of the Treasure Island hotel in Las Vegas from the 1990s. The bar will be cool, but after 55 years isn't it time Disney builds a real pirate area around PotC?
Well put. And the thing that baffles me is that it wouldn't cost that much money to make it MUCH better. The level creativity and theming that, say, Universal put into it's temporary Fan Fest Nights experiences could be spent on scenic painting, props, "set dressing" so to speak, and really plus this area up without (and until) major construction.I agree completely... Back when this was all built in the 70s, we were not inundated with thematic architecture...Fast forward 50 years, and thematic flourishes have been with us in everyday life...Chain restaurants, shopping malls, movie theaters etc.... The 1970s era Caribbean Plaza now looks like the entrance to a housing development in central Florida... It should have all been plussed and enhanced decades ago...It hardly looks like an 18th century waterfront town... which I think is supposed to be the starting point....It really does need serious upgrades and theming...like what they are doing with Epic...We no longer feel very transported in the different lands of the Magic Kingdom as we once did...
You obviously never ate at a Pancho's Mexican Buffet, Chi-Chi's, any Tiki Bar restaurant, Casa Maria, or either of the Busch Gardens' Festhalles...I agree completely... Absolutely...and part of my point...there are places around us and have been that do theme as well if not better...I have the Mai Kai Polynesian Restaurant literally at the end of my block here in South Florida... ChiChi's was indeed more themed than say Tall Tale Cafe...You obviously never ate at a Pancho's Mexican Buffet, Chi-Chi's, any Tiki Bar restaurant, Casa Maria, or either of the Busch Gardens' Festhalles...
tell the Fuente Del Fortuna that has been turned off for years...lolI heavily disagree with anyone saying Caribbean plaza is outdated. Yeah it’s not treasure cove but it holds up well on its own and has a lot of cool details if you’re willing to look . Good design is timeless.
I do agree that the restaurant should be open full time. But that doesn’t change my opinion of it as a whole. Also not as detailed as the rest of the land? A good part of it is greenery. Now That’s not a knock. (Adventureland is my favorite land in the park for atmosphere and when you include the attractions my favorite in the entirety of central Florida) but it’s not really more or less detailed than the Caribbean plaza.tell the Fuente Del Fortuna that has been turned off for years...lol
Caribbean Plaza is not the thematic masterpiece you seem to think it is...and quite frankly they could do much better with that area... A half-hearted Fortress and clock tower, and some Spanish style buildings and shopping arcade...A shuttered restaurant... It could all be improved and plussed in a way that you feel like you have actually arrived in a Spanish settlement... I suppose the bar was not that high in 1973... It certainly was not as rich in details as the rest of Adventureland. Having been to Shanghai Disneyland I have seen what they can do with a Pirates themed area... Even Disneyland Paris has a more engaging area and lead up to the attraction...
So...outdated by the standards we have become used to in our theme parks... yeah, I would say that.
Sometimes people are just bored and just be saying anything.I heavily disagree with anyone saying Caribbean plaza is outdated. Yeah it’s not treasure cove but it holds up well on its own and has a lot of cool details if you’re willing to look . Good design is timeless.
I think the goal was to make it at least somewhat reminiscent of an actual Spanish colonial settlement.
Central to my issue is that it is not historically authentic or good design. That Pirates of the Caribbean building has a flat roof. That's not how a Caribbean building's roof would be built centuries ago (just look at the California Missions to see how the Spanish built big buildings back then). Imagine tropical storms on a flat roof in the 1700s...how would it be built? What water-proof material would have been up there? It wouldn't. That flat roof is just like a supermarket from the 1970s.Good design is timeless.
I don't think I'm just saying anything. Sometimes they really do have to update their theme parks to reflect new expectations in themed entertainment. Here's Peter Pan at Disneyland before and after the 1983 "New Fantasyland." I don't recall people complaining.Sometimes people are just bored and just be saying anything.
If Disney decided to “plus” this area there would be endless complaints about how they ruined it and it’s not the same.
Also how they miss the original design.
