MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Out of curiosity, what do your high schoolers prefer? I’d assume DHS. Hopefully, Epcot, too?

We went last year with a high school group. Didn't go to DAK with them, but hit the other three. My impression was Epcot was clearly the least popular and MK was probably the most popular but at least close with DHS.

Regarding coasters, Tron is pretty much as intense as RNR anyway so that seems like an odd critique for MK relative to the other parks.

He also talked about the Play! Pavilion....and Mary Poppins....and the spectacular new Epcot spine....lol

If you want to be real pedantic, I’m finding it hard to identify if Iger has ever publically mentioned those projects. Neither before or after their cancellation. Though I’m skeptical to say never, I just cannot find it.

He also proceeded not to talk about them on his return.

“When Iger addressed the shareholders, he said the completion of Moana: Journey of Water, as well as the rest of the construction occupying the World Celebration and World Nature neighborhoods, would mark the completion of EPCOT’s 50th Anniversary Revamp.”

Things Bob Iger has talked about a lot include Pandora, Shanghai Disney and Galaxies Edge.

He talks about Villain Land and Cars a lot now, too. If not for his contract ending next year, I’d be confident both will be built. As it is, I’m sure SOMETHING will be built since they’ll rip out RoA while he is still CEO, but I’d feel more confident about Villain Land it if actually got underway. Slow as molasses…

That was all an effect of Covid.
So after Covid with more and more price increases, why were these projects not brought back online and finished as they should have been? They can't keep using the Covid excuse... because the parks were closed for a 116 days that they could not afford to complete any of the projects announced.....when clearly they are continuing to invest in the parks....

I foolishly think villains is a 2029 project and expect major movement before his departure December 2026. I figure we have a six month window thereafter before the next CEO starts meddling with “perceived legacy”. Unless they have outright disdain for Iger during the transition.

If D’Amaro somehow gains more power, that probably secures the vast majority regardless.

Yes, and it increasingly looks like D’Amaro is being prepped for the role.

Because Covid halted construction on those projects, and Disney didn't receive the parks income during the closures. By the time construction ended on what ws continuing (Ratatouille, Guardians and Tron), funding had already be reassigned/spent on new projects. The three you keep on mentioning:
Play became instantly Outdated by being inspired by 2018 Wreck-It Ralph Internet and interactive features that are becoming less common
Epcot's Spine was redesigned to fit a new budget, still opened and features the main anchors that was announced (Moana, Dreamers Point, Connections and Creations and a Festival Center)
Mary Poppins was an expensive teacups attraction themed to Mary Poppins Returns rather than the original movie. They could always revive it but of all those Epcot announcements, a flat ride is never Disney's priority and only a bonus if there is funding left

I wish if they had done a Mary poppins flat ride they would have done a carousel. It would have been so lovely to ride the one from the movie while hearing feed the birds or jolly holiday

I find it funny that several posters are still using Covid era projects as the basis of everything Disney builds now.

Like let’s ignore it was unprecedented time with the world shutdown and resources drying up.

Even Epic was pushed back as it was originally suppose to open in 2024.

Plus let’s not get started on Chapek’s half baked ideas for the parks and we have a recipe for disaster.

I have an idea! Let's all play a rousing game of "Which villains will most certainty NOT be featured in Villains Land"? I'll start:
- Brer Fox and Brer Bear (for obvious reasons)
- Alamedia Slim (because Disney doesn't give a crap about Home on the Range)
- Amos Slade (because Disney doesn't give a crap about The Fox and the Hound either)
- Any of the villains from the direct-to-video sequels (such as Ursula's sister from The Little Mermaid 2, Saluk from Aladdin and the King of Thieves, Sarousch or whatever his name was from The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2, etc.)
- Roruke from Atlantis (another film Disney doesn't give a crap about)
- Jeffrey Katzenberg

Anyone else?

Wasn't at least one of those projects cancelled to fund the Splash Mountain retheme?
Unless they have outright disdain for Iger during the transition.
I would LOVE IT if the next CEO had outright disdain for Iger. I know that's very unlikely, but it's what Disney needs.

I'd be very surprised if Madame Medusa, Percival McLeach, Madam Mim, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Prince John, Ratigan, Shere Khan, Stromboli, or the Horned King are part of the land (other than maybe a picture on the wall in a restaurant or something small like that).

Yeah, so would I. The dark ride will probably only have Maleficent, Hades, Jafar, Ursula, Scar, Captain Hook, Cruella, and one of the newer villains like Mother Gothel or King Magnifico.
