News Disney and Miral Announce New Seventh Theme Park Planned for Abu Dhabi

Looking at Yas island on Google Maps it's got to be going somewhere towards the north. But that doesn't seem like a big area. Hong Kong Disneyland is 68 acres, Farrari World (also on Yas Island) is about 21 acres but over many floors. I can't see it being very big?

From Disney's perspective, I guess this proposition is all reward no risk in a financial sense, so I understand why they accepted the offer.

There's something about it that doesn't entirely sit well with me, though. It feels like the company selling the Disneyland brand to the highest bidder as a status symbol, which ultimately cheapens it. I am just imagining this like the videos of other theme parks I have seen in the region that look almost deserted but keep running because the government/allied investors pump money into it.

I am interested to know what agreements they have in place about the use of migrant labour in its construction. I presume they must have some agreement due to Disney's interest in its reputation, but I can also imagine that if concerns arise the company putting up the billions to build it will allow Disney to put their concerns in a letter so they can consider them in due course.

I completely disagree from a morality decision obviously, but Disney is looking at this in a business way. There’s a huge gap between Paris and Shanghai distance wise. I guess they also think this will accommodate many people within that region. A place like Australia just doesn’t have the population and I’m not sure if South America has the necessary economy to support a park. I find it crazy they are choosing business over human rights though, it pretty much diminishes their entire agenda they previously presented.

I'm honestly surprised Disney chose Abu Dhabi as the location for the 7th theme park instead of the UK, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, or even another USA location like Texas. Though this does seem more like an Tokyo Disneyland situation where some company asks "Hey can we build a Disneyland here?" and Disney says "Sure why not" and lends their IP out to them.

Yeah, I think the big reason is none of those places would fully fund the construction and pay a licencing fee

Is the new park going to serve booze in anti alcohol UAE? Do not even think about getting caught with drugs over there.

A lot of the newer built resorts aiming to attract tourists allow alcohol. They basically adjust the laws to view those areas as separate/ring fences from the "regular" parts of the country

Not sure how they will view this since this is also to be for locals but not impossible for them to have alcohol

If there are any resorts or restaurants associated with the park I'm sure they will serve. Any non-Muslim can drink in UAE in approved locations.

Abu Dhabi caters to an international tourist audience. Alcohol is widely available to non-Muslims in hotels and licensed clubs. You can bet there will be alcohol available in some venues at or near DAD.

Illegal drugs are illegal everywhere they're illegal.
