Tokyo Disneyland Resort Expansion

Im still honestly confused, and i shouldn’t go deep with this but, If theyre removing Western river railroad allegedly. This could mean a big change is bound to happen in Critter country, westernland and Rivers Of America and also is connected to Big Thunder mountain.
My immediate assumption was that there is a second half of this concept art that has a giant rivers of america/critter country re-development plan that would theoretically be slated for after this.

I agree though, it wouldn't make sense to go to this extent and not have plans to touch all of it eventually.

Regarding TDR's status as the "best" Disney resort - I'm sure execution of whatever is built will be exceptional. Even if the concept is poor, they usually pay to make things worthwhile.

I remember reading that OLC was forbidden from advertising Tokyo Disney Resort outside of Japan. I'm very curious how this push for overseas visitors will go with Disney.

I'm not opposed to Jungle Cruise or Tiki Room going - TDL *is* the most-attended theme park in the world, and its land situation does require moves like this to be made. But man... Incredibles? Really? The loss of the railroad also makes me a bit uneasy about their Rivers of America.

The Paradise Falls show building does look Flight of Passage shaped, so i'm curious about that. The Moana boat ride seems like wasted potential.

I really want to know what's up with Port Discovery. My first thought was that Marvel will take it over, but I suppose we'll find out.

Expansion of the resort land is a non starter

The park is obligated to not expand guest facing areas outside of the north/east range of the monorail tracks under the planning structure of the land

At absolute most they could buy out urayasu sports park and move the cast areas there (though since I believe Tokyo has land integrity offsiting cast areas with land integrity is a nightmare) then expand into the current cast area

IP is everything at TDR. It’s what powers the massive Disney fandom in Japan. Much more so than in other countries.

I don’t know how concrete these plans are, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them exchanging opening day attractions for unique IP attractions.
Haunted Mansion and Country Bears are definitely the only “safe” ones if their Japanese fandoms are anything to go by. They both push lots of merch in Tokyo. Country Bears might get the Disney overlay cycling with the Christmas and Vacation ones

OLC is the best because they build instead of rep... OHHHH uhhh.... Uhhmmmm.....

France wins because they replace nothing because they don't build there.
DLP is also my personal pick for the best castle park, in terms of visual aesthetics and thematic immersion. Frontierland feels like a proper western town with interconnected lore between all rides, Fantasyland feels intimate and colorful, Adventureland is dense and lush with many paths to take and things to discover, and Discoveryland is very uniquely French. The attraction lineup isn’t the strongest, but there’s room for improvement.

Paris’s Adventureland DOES need more attractions… could they take Tokyo’s Tiki Room?

Long time lurker and Tokyo local posting some thoughts.

Tokyo Disney Adventureland Expansion
- I can see this expansion being either focused on Pixar only, or a mixture of different, "recent" IPs very much like FS.

-Secondly, I see this expansion being divided into 5 distinct neighborhoods, again, like FS.

1. New Orleans Square
-The New Orleans Square part of Adventureland is safe, yay for Pirates.

2. Area between Royal Street Veranda, and China Voyager will be a Tropical Americas-esque area that is either a Coco area (Santa Cecilia), or Encanto.

-I don't think Encanto isn't as popular in Japan, so I'm leaning towards the former. Again, this makes sense if the "whatever IP shows up in parades or nighttime shows will get a ride" theory is true.
- New Orleans Theater will be gutted, becoming a pathway to an indoor theater or ride housed where the current OLC wardrobe building is standing. This building is quite big (I used to work at TDL), I can see it becoming an E-Ticket boat ride themed after Coco, or Encanto.

- Swiss Family Treehouse is demo-ed to become a Flik's Flyers like spinner themed after...something??

3. Jungle Cruise land re-themed to UP w/ Paradise Falls
- Pretty much a no-brainer since the IP showed up in recent parades and nighttime shows. I'm guesssing a FoP-like simulator, or *wild guess* a FULLY INDOOR JUNGLE CRUISE, themed to UP. Imagine the skippers as camp scouts trying to earn their merit badge by taking guests on an adventure through the uncharted jungle.. I can already imagine boats leaving the dock as skippers say "TO ADVENTURE!!"

- We also see playgrounds themed to a fossil excavation site?? Hence the out of place Pteradactyls in the concept art. I think it fits nicely with the camp scouts theming of UP. Maybe Russell and his friends set up camp to dig some fossils? Maybe we can reuse remnants of Dinoland USA to save on budget.

4. Western River Railroad backstage, and Dino tunnel re-themed to the Incredibles.
- Perhaps the smallest of the neighborhood, this area is definitely themed after the Incredibles, heck the mountain looks similar to the island in the first Incredibles movie.

- There is an Omnidroid-themed spinner, looks cool!

- I also see a roller coaster (looks similar to Rocket Rods???), I can see this themed after Elastigirl's bike from the second movie. Since space is pretty much limited here, I think this will be a shorter coaster with minimum show scenes.

5. Tropical Terrace - Tiki Room area rethemed after Moana.

- I wish Moana got a full land at DisneySea, but しょうがない,
- The tropical terrace area becomes a walkthrough, or remains a restaurant.

- Tiki Room area features a boat ride?? Since Tiki Room shares backstage with the Country Bears, I can see them demoing both Tiki and Bears to make a Rapunzel's Lantern Festival-ish short boat ride with Moana.

I also think there is more to be revealed at a later date, what wil happen to Western River Railroad? Will they get expand further and get rid of RoA?

Tokyo DisneySea Expansion
- I literally have no idea what I'm seeing here, but its obvious Aquatopia is going away, and the waterway near Cape Cod will be filled in with dirt to have more land. This means the Transit Steamer Line will have to turn around at where SeaRider is, making a round-trip cruise impossible.

- This land either looks like Discovery Bay , or *wild guess* Naboo. Yes. Naboo, the home of Jar Jar.

- If its Discovery Bay, the new building also reminds me of a manor, I think this will be a huge dark ride themed after SEA, maybe the manor is owned by this guy? https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Prof._R._Blauerhimmel

- If Naboo, yea I have no idea.

Overall, I'm excited for what the future holds, but I'm devastated they are closing down both Jungle Cruise and WRR.
Hello, long time Tokyo-local lurker here.
I have some thoughts on this expansion.

A slightly different concept of the Port Discovery re-imagining was also included in the press release. I assume this is an older rendition.

Personally, I prefer the second concept art; everything feels more cohesive and complete. I hope they learn from the lack of shops at Fantasy Springs, and I don't want to alarm everyone, but I saw someone point out that part of the new building looks similar to the Sanctum Sanctorum.

I visited TDR in 2012 and I remember even back then Western Railroad felt like an extremely outdated, boring ride that wasted an obscene amount of space. In general, TDR—exceptions aside—looked outdated next to the brand-new and splendid DisneySea. I’m glad they’re breathing new life into the classic areas, starting with Fantasy, then Tomorrow, and now Adventure. I hope Frontier gets its renovation too.

As for Adventure, I don’t think Pueblp Coco, Up and Nomanisan Island are bad choices—both are “exotic worlds.” I think Moana and The Jungle Book would have also been great additions.
