Allegedly there were issues with costumes, but no explanation has ever surfaced for why Hong Kong's near identical parade ran nightly until the pandemic and apparently had no issues but Disneyland's was so "difficult".
I wouldn't be surprised if the costumes were part of the problem, though I guess we'll see if any modified costumes debut in a month. During the Magic United campaign I remember a CM say that her mom who was a parade performer for 10 years had to quit because her costume (for an unspecified parade) kept cutting her arm and they wouldn't let her wear a leotard underneath.

Upkeep in PTN is much higher and involves more techs to run the show due to syncing the costumes with the floats before each parade. There was also higher issues of injuries due to PTN costumes.
Just trying to figure out how a costume can cause injuries. Someone getting shocked by a battery pack?

If they're not designed for performer comfort and come with a lot of fancy high tech bells and whistles, I can easily picture a lot of issues. If Hong Kong performers don't have a lot of entertainment unions and/or protections (very conceivable IMO, given the disparity between what I have seen in entertainment at Disney parks in the US vs in Asia), it would help explain why the HK version seemingly went on without issues.

Can't speak for other costumes, but I could easily imagine that, say, whoever was Tinkerbell on the drum float had to be quite uncomfortable.

To me, then, the question is why a company with Disney's resources didn't simply re-design the costumes so that they were less problematic for the performers. I certainly hope that they have done so this time around.

It looks like her costume is strapped to the arm. She isn't on a bike seat but in some kind of harness or girdle. That can't be comfortable for half hour of flinging your arms around.

Not only is she flinging her own arms around, but that arm she is strapped to moves around so that puts added stress on her body. Of all the costumes this has to be the most uncomfortable one I would think.

Pointy bits can dig in, things can not fit quite right, shoes could be slightly too small or too big and not worn in, anything really.

Probably fine to wear standing still for 30 seconds, but a 30 minute parade when you’re moving constantly is different.

For PTN, performers were typically in these costumes for over an hour at a time. Most just weren’t designed with movement in mind and are either pulling on certain body parts or just heavy.

From what I heard previously, it had the highest amount of workers comp cases compared to any other parade/show.

Disney secretly hates the soundtrack.
Jokes aside, I personally like Owl City so I'm good with it myself.

It was always an odd choice for the parade. It has nothing to do with “Painting the night”. I think the Hong Kong show stop music would have been better. I have wondered if originally that was going to be the main song but they later changed it.
Too bad HK discontinued the "show stop" back in 2015, but I can't imagine that being the whole shows song. But I do wish they would bring back the "glow with the show" merch to all Parks.

I’ve always liked the instrumental version a lot more then the final one they used with lyrics.. Sounds more classic Disney to me..

I remember in old promotional videos posted on the Disney Parks Youtube channel in 2015. There was two behind the scenes videos for PTN which used two versions of the parade's main theme which actually used more of the Baroque Hoedown theme. Shame those videos have since been made private and never used in the finalized version.

Just popping in to say I love the little obscure facts you bring up
