MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

I have to disagree. There is only one attraction at MK that’s not traditionally family friendly due to intensity (TRON); there are zero attractions with tension or conflict-induced stories.

If Disney wants the MK to remain relevant beyond families with young children, they need the coaster to at least be TRON or Hagrid’s level intense, if not closer to Rockin’ or dare I say Velocicoaster (though the last is never going to happen).

Similarly, the dark ride doesn’t necessarily need to be physically intense, but it does need to have genuine conflict and create that feeling of excitement and nervous-energy (like Rise or the story of Splash).
The problem is the more intense you make the coaster the more bare bones it becomes to accommodate any extra craziness.

Looking at the ride lineup at the MK I would hope the Villains coaster follows a similar path.

Family friendly and highly themed. This isn’t Universal who is known more for their thrilling rides.

I hope the upcoming rollercoasters in Monsters Inc land and Villains land will be of decent length. Cosmic Rewind is just right for me. Hagrids/Hiccup's Wing Gliders is pretty long while Werewolf is pretty short.

I don't even know why they greenlit a coaster like this which is barely a minute long. Would rather they lengthen the coaster and sacrifice some themeing if budget is a factor.

This was purposely built to be a kiddie coaster like Barnstormer.

It's incredibly over-themed as such, but it is intentionally short and mild.

I understand it is short like Barnstormer but it seems to lack all the charm. Not much to look at and missing inspired track designs (no tight turns like Barnstormer or going through the cutout of Goofy). I would be mad if I waited long for that ride.

Wow.

That coaster ended before it began.

I really think Tron is probably the lower limit of any coaster length. Anything less than 90 seconds is a bit of a waste, IMHO.

Like @MisterPenguin said, this is not where our eyes should be traveling to look at length. This is a kid's coaster tha was intended to be Hong Kong's equal to Gadget Go Coaster or Barnstormer, and not meant to be on an equal footing to an actual family coaster like 7DMT or SDD.

You see a mountain tunnel up ahead and think it's part two of a ride with more show scenes only to be disappointed it's just a return to station.

but I guess the question is Why? Why wasn't it a family coaster like 7DMT...it should and could have been....they built a mountain around it, designed beautiful ride vehicles....it is such a fail... In a beautiful land

It was originally a trackless dark ride like Luigi's at DCA. Then they got the budget increased so it could be a junior coaster instead. It was never given the budget to be a lengthy family coaster like 7DMT

I’d prefer a more intense coaster. There are more than enough options for all ages at MK to last multiple days. Having one ride intended for an older audience in a Villains land that many kids will be too scared to visit doesn’t feel like too big of an ask.

Yeah, a tamer villains coaster just defeats the purpose of it being a villains coaster. The thrill is what will align with the theme.
I still have mixed feelings about what the right approach is when it comes to trill rides in MK but I will agree that if Disney wanted to test the limits Villain’s land would be the place to do it.

But if they do then they should probably balance it by making the dark ride all ages.

It doesn’t need to be SDMT level nor should it be. There’s plenty for littles to enjoy in the park. IF they do build a villains coaster it SHOULD be thrilling
It’ll be a thrilling coaster. I have no doubt about that.

But, Disney will want most people to feel intimidated, but comfortable going on both of the big rides in Villains land, which I expect will be considered the greatest theme park land in Florida when it opens.

And that means something along the lines of Velocicoaster is simply not going to happen.

Until we get more info about this land I’m gonna act like a coaster is not planned.

I don’t why Disney feels the need to compete with Universal in the thrill ride category.

That’s not their lane.
I’m not trying to be rude or even disagree with you but I find your take incredibly interesting.

Disney needs to do a certain amount of things to compete with Universal to keep people going to both parks. As other’s have said the artwork that has been released so far clearly indicates that they are definitely intending to put a coster in there and it would be somewhat foolish of them not to. I think ignoring that is definitely a head in the sand kind of stance to have at this time.

So, given how well Dark Universe seems to be received in terms of scariness at Epic Universe, so we think Disney will go the dark route with the Villains or a more tamer approach?
