New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? No, and that’s OK

Speaking of high ride capacity coupled with great showmanship equaling excellent customer service, I've posted this photo several times before, but it's time to do it again...

"238 GUESTS ADMITTED EACH 4 MIN - OVER 40,000 DAILY TO OUR 45 MIN SHOW"

Can you imagine WDI even caring about such a thing today, much less bragging about it? Over 3,500 riders per hour for the GE Carousel of Progress and it's swanky post-show?!?

Do you think Josh D'Amaro circa 2025, even with his tight pants and runner's physique and winning smile, knows this is an important thing to achieve? His products and deliverables in the past 5 years don't show that he does know that.

Then pair the 3,500 per hour Carousel of Progress with the 2,800 per hour Goodyear PeopleMover and the 2,100 per hour Monsanto Adventure Thru Inner Space and the 2,500 per hour Bell System CircleVision America The Beautiful, and 2,300 per hour for the McDonnel-Douglas Flight To The Moon, plus the General Dynamics Submarines and the Richfield Autopia and the Monorail and Rocket Jets. Phew!

But sure, send the Imagineers for an "Immersion Trip" to a Ritz-Carlton, and forget about the rubes paying for tickets to that theme park south of the very important administration building.

But how will you be able to sell lightning lanes on attractions that are such people eaters?

I know some here don't think that Buzz Lightyear fits in Tomorrowland (I do as it's a Sci-fi shooting attraction) but MK's Buzz is getting updated this Summer (reopening 2026) There's a chance that Buzz will stay at Disneyland and get these updates?

I would say the fact that these upgrades weren’t announced for DL would be more of a sign it’s not sticking around at DL. Buzz is fun/ whimsical and doesn’t really bother me. I just think they can do better than a Cartoon space ranger shooting ride and that land at DL/ TL is at a premium. Now with that said, if it does stick around it absolutely needs a lot of love. But I dunno- when you consider the fact that Buzz at DL has gotten no 70th refurb in the awful shape it’s in and was left off this announcement today it’s not looking good. Or it is depending on who you are. Haha

If Buzz were themed to the Space Ranger who is off on missions across the galaxy, then yes, I'd say it fits. Since Buzz is portrayed as a toy and surrounded by toys and batteries, I'd say it fits in TL only slightly better than a Woody's Roundup ride or Slinky Dog Dash. The theme of the toys are the only aspects that fits.

That's true. Disneyland and Disneyland Paris' versions are identical and don't seem to be getting any update. I'm seeing MK's update as Disney saying they're not getting rid of all the Buzz's as I thought they might when Wreck-It Ralph was announced for Tokyo 😀

Right it does seem like there might be some high level initiative to differentiate the parks at least stateside where possible. If true then it would make sense to keep the original versions of the attractions. In this case I also suspect it could have something to do with its location at Disneyland and what the Peoplemover plans might be.

With this news, plus the Wreck It Ralph attraction's announcement, I also can't help but wonder what is in store for our Buzz. Every time I ride it seems worn down and even noticeably dirty on a few visits. I wouldn't be sorry to see a new theme take over, especially in tandem with the upgrades. It feels like there are two movies coming this year, one fantastic and the other a remake, that may have eyes on this real estate.

I think Stitch is going to do really well at the box office. My issue with him in TL is that so much of the charm of the movie has to do with the setting- Hawaii (and the Elvis songs) which I’m assuming would not be present on the attraction in Tomorrowland. But if he’s kind of just sprinkled in and out of a few minor show scenes throughout a PeopleMover ride I can see it working. Or as a more modern shooter ride like Buzz in Shanghai.

Now as far as merch I wonder what does Stitch sell in comparison to Toy Story? I know he does well but they re not closing down that Toy Story shop for anything other than a major merch mover.

Stitch appeals more to the craziness of a teenager life while Toy Story is for K-4th graders. If we must keep a shooter in that location, change it to Stitch. It's better than Ant Man.
I'll take a Stitch shooter, just so long as they build it as a modern ride. Buzz is a pretty mediocre attraction anywhere, but Disneyland's is the weakest I've experienced.

After seeing the new Tron Ares trailer, I now really want them to put a longer Tron light cycle run in Tomorrowland with the red neon lighting instead of the blue. The color and longer version to differentiate from the other park versions.

They could use the people mover tracks. Build some light cycles and have them go fast in the straight sections, but slow down in the corners so they don't have to build any banked sections. I'm sure the track can take it.

They could certainly build the tracks over them with those cool canopies and possibly even use the star wars launch bay building for line queue and launch. But ultimately if Tomorrowland ever gets updated they need to replace Nemo and autopia. Both take up a lot of real estate for attractions that are outdated and not very popular. Even though autopia is nostalgic, you could put the new avatar boat ride and an updated FOP in that huge space. Add those too with Tron and that area would be massively improved. Then those are done they could update space mountain and retheme/update buzz lightyear.

You know I was looking at the COP building yesterday. I’m not sure I want it demolished. It’s such a cool looking and historic building. I’d be ok with some beatification and spit/polish. I’d rather see them bring back the rotating theatre in a meaningful way. Besides it’s not enough space for any E ticket unless you completely demolish/ alter/ shrink Autopia and the Subs. Nah, I’m good. With that said I would be ok with it being the show building housing a proper finale or show scenes for the People Mover or something similar.
