The Pixar brand is just not what it used to be. There are so many other animation companies that bring out exciting new styles while Pixar has made all their character models look like Aardman. They aren't leading anymore but resting on the past just like Disney Animation.

It's odd because Pixar's "brand" up until the 2010s is that they were known for high quality animated films.

Disney is a brand with an identity because you have all the different branching components like themeparks, tv shows, movies, record labels, books, merchandise etc.

But Pixar? Even at its peak never really had a brand identity beyond the quality of their films.

What does Pixar as a brand even mean? In the 90s maybe it was being computer animated? But now all animation is done this way.

They need to stop trying to push it as anything more than an animation studio thats under the Disney umbrella.

I guess I’m the only one looking forward to this. As someone who watched Mickey Mouse clubhouse growing up this is pretty cool. I wonder when it will come to Hollywood studios .

Agreed. Pixar is really no different from Dreamworks or Illumination but just not as budget efficient or creative.
Pre-2010, every Pixar movie was a buddy picture.

Pixar made 3 Cars, 5 Toy Story, 2 Monsters Inc, 2 Finding Nemo's, 2 Inside-Out, 2 Incredibles movies and soon 2 Cocos.
That’s a much smaller percentage of Pixar’s output than minions is illuminations. in addition to those illumination has also produced 2 sings 2 secret life of pets 2 adaptations of existing dr. Suess stories and is gearing up to make a bunch of Mario movies. currently the only movies not based on a preexisting story they’ve made that haven’t been made into a franchise are hop and migration.

So what's your point?

At one point Disneyland had shows for different ages. Now they are all rubber head baby shows or stuff that hasn't changed much in 35 years. We get excited to have that
The International Disney Parks (especially Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort) does a much better job at handling different demographic for shows and entertainment compared to DL and WDW for years now.

It's almost as if the overseas parks are being run by an entirely different company.

The notable shift with Disneyland entertainment since Governor Newsom allowed Disneyland to reopen in April, 2021 is tragic; abandoning the 2,000 seat theater in DCA even though that park is still obviously short of capacity, only doing hokey rubberhead shows in Disneyland's two theaters with retreads worthy of a 1990's shopping mall tour, slashing and cutting in-park bands and streetmosphere, etc., etc.

There's clearly a purposeful desire to retreat massively from Disneyland's previous levels of park entertainment from the Modern Era of 1999-2019 to some sort of Value Engineered and Dumbed Down version of toddler bare minimum levels of offerings.

I'm not sure if it's the increasingly high labor costs of a highly-regulated California, or a TDA leadership team who aren't showmen and don't get how the park historically operated and hosted its "guests", or a combination of those two. But something has obviously changed.

In 2025 they don't want to be showmen, and they can't, or won't, put on a show. :(

Only Tokyo is owned by a different company. Disneyland Paris is 100 percent owned by Disney as of 2017 and Hong Kong and Shanghai Disneyland are owned partly by the Chinese government and partly by Disney.

Since DLP has been owned by Disney in 2017, they've produced some great shows, and now the mind behind some of their shows has moved to WDW and we're getting 2 new stage shows this year there now. Maybe now he's in the US, he can throw something Disneyland's way

I'm usually not a stickler for staying on topic as it is common for small tangents here and there, but not only does the last two pages of this thread not belong in this thread, they don't belong on this board.

Can't you guys take all the Tokyo talk and (second hand) trip reports to the Tokyo board and bring this thread back to New and Returning entertainment at.....oh idk......Disneyland?
