Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday

Meh. I love Doom and am very psyched to see in done right on the big screen but I'm absolutely sick of multiverse stuff at this point. And honestly I had been looking forward to seeing the MCU do the X-Men better than FOX had (part of the reason I'm so stoked for FF). Even though some of these actors are excellent, I was hoping that we were done with their stories and would start anew.

Only have to wait a short bit longer.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with using the existing franchise, and I'm sure it will be fun. I do wonder why they're so dependent on the old pre-MCU stuff all of a sudden.
There’s some speculation online why certain actors were chosen and others not (eg unavailability of Holland, Cumberbatch, a few others). But the simple answer is that they’re leaning into the more recent films that did well (Deadpool, Shang-Chi, Thor, Black Panther), or are next up (FF, Thunderbolts) and kind of moving past the rest (The Marvels, Eternals, Kang era). Given the Marvels stinger, it is odd they are including Grammar and not any of the Marvels characters.

I do think this is a way they fully pull/fold in the mutants into the broader MCU after dancing and teasing it for like six years now. I also wonder if we see some conclusion to the multiverse stuff too.

The other thing people are not picking up on, this is a gonna be two part movie with this being the first part and Secret Wars being part two. This would be similar to how Infinity War was part one and End Game was part two.

This is why you don't have Spider-Man, and some of the other Young Avengers in this movie, but they will likely be in the Part Two in Secret Wars.

They've had to pivot because of issues beyond their control and are now trying to get back on track.
They had to pivot because the story wasn’t working. Majors gave them an excuse, but if things were working well the role of Kang could have been recast, which would have been even easier with all of the multiverse variants.

By the time this movie comes out, we'll have been 7 years since the last Avengers movie of any kind. That is longer than any other point in the MCU in the last 18 years when this is released, average was 3 years previously. So how long are you expecting them to go before we have another Avengers event level movie? How long do they need to build it up in order to get to that level? 10 years?

I understand it may not seem like it, but they were building toward something previously. They've had to pivot because of issues beyond their control and are now trying to get back on track. So it may seem rushed in terms of story arc, but Mutants (X-Men) was always the goal of the end of this Saga. Its why they've teased it previously with the Ms Marvel show and the Marvels movie. We're 2 years away from the end of this Saga and barely scratched the surface of that. And if you know the comics and the story they appear to be telling, this question is sorted of answered on why it seems they are dependent on the pre-MCU stuff. In my opinion Battle World is likely coming and an eventual reset of the MCU, with the eventual Avengers vs Mutants storyline taking over.
I think both are correct, and that was the problem. I think they waited FAR too long to have a meetup with a bunch of characters in an Avengers movie. But it also feels they are rushing it. I think it's because other movies had buildups. You had teasers of them working together, being in the same universe, etc. You had SHIELD and Thanos as common denominators. You had established character movies introducing the next line of characters. Phase 4 was Black Widow, Eternals, No Way Home, Dr. Strange, Thor, and Black Panther. For me, they felt like a bunch of one-offs outside of Strange/Spiderman. And they did no favors in building their next line of characters. Instead of introducing them in established films, they just gave films to brand new characters. Essentially, I think they wasted Phase 4, which in turn caused phase 5 to have no momentum.

That's ultimately how they did it before. The first two Avengers movies were relatively smaller affairs that contributed to the larger storyline, and they only did the Infinity Saga once they had a large enough established universe.

So I would have expected another "small" Avengers movie here, use it to introduce the X-Men maybe, and after those characters have their own establishing movie do the big event.

Endgame was a once in a generation type event. You don't get those results again without a big time gap.

I also wonder if they're harming their ability to really do their own take on X-Men and have it be widely accepted. Multiverse concept aside, this movie will formally establish Stewart and McKellan et all as those iconic characters within the MCU, so introducing a new Xavier and Magneto later won't have the same impact.
