Len Testa - “Disney positions itself as the all-American vacation. The irony is that most Americans can’t afford it.”

My last GTY suite on Celebrity Beyond was less than half the cost of a standard DCL 4A stateroom. We could’ve sailed Beyond suite for 3 cruises over 18 nights for DCL money. And DCL concierge amenities aren’t as good.

TIL flying Spirit: The armrests don't move - you have to slide across them to get to a middle or window seat. And if you're not careful you'll catch your leg. I mentioned it to the flight attendant and they said they call the resultant bruises "Spirit thighs." There's a t-shirt design there...

Great point. Most Americans live within a 3-hour drive of an NFL city, so it's a there-and-back day trip. Also, you can buy NFL tickets on the secondary market, but not to Disney. Here are sample prices for this coming weekend, and prices should continue to fall: 9 of the 16 games cost less...

News Disney World Resorts Available From $129/Night With Florida Resident Winter 2025 Offer

If I've calculated this correctly, this discount's AS-Sport rate of $146 with tax is ~18% off the rack rate. Last year's discount for Oct through Christmas (same dates) was ~15% for Value resorts, so this is comparable for Values. Maybe slightly better? We don't know how many rooms are on...

That’s a great deal! The BLS says the average airfare to Orlando from around the US was $294 per person earlier this year: https://www.transtats.bts.gov/averagefare/.

I'm just spitballing here, so approach all of this with a healthy dose of skepticism. Let's assume that no families in the bottom 60% of American households can afford the kind of multi-day Disney World trip you've outlined. (I'm sure some do. Work with me.) And let's assume that all theme...

Thank you for doing this! It would be useful to ballpark transportation costs as well. They're counted in travel expenditures, which is why I mention it. Keep in mind that most Americans do not live within a 600-mile drive of a Disney theme park. So for most Americans it's a one- or two-day...

Refurbishment coming to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort lobby

Talk about something that would drive visits to Orlando! I could probably name 500 people who'd go just to see that.
