Your phone actually already works with this system! It's how the disney parks play app awards badges after you ride a ride. It's powered by bluetooth beacons. But, that being said, it might not work as reliably as the magic bands. Most phones disable the tech that powers it in low battery mode...

Limiting the skyliner to one party per cabin would be a really easy change to make to preserve distance between guests, but it seems like with the way the system is setup, cleaning cabins between parties would be pretty impossible.
