I thought the originals (which I'm pretty sure were all Paul Frees) sounded more natural. The new ones to me sound too try-hard, or maybe not trying hard enough.

His line "or do you fancy a swim with Davy Jones?" doesn't even make sense in regards to the films' mythology. If the mayor were to drown in the well, Davy Jones wouldn't be coming to collect him. Of course the Jones/Blackbeard projection and mermaids in the cave don't make sense either.

Yes, that's what they're doing, but making it an inferior scene with sure-to-be inferior dialogue and vocal performances. Every original 1967 voice that's been removed has been replaced with an audio track by a voice actor who's not nearly as good as the original.
