That's just crazy. When you look at what a Tesla is capable of doing it seems crazy that a train on a single lane beam can't stop in a certain spot and react to trains in front of it.

I still think there has to be a way to build hydraulic ramps in the stations to avoid the need to modify the trains to be flush to the platform. The main issue was getting the trains to stop in the right spot each time, but the automation should have taken care of that.

I wonder how long until the energy inefficiency of them can cause enough of a green story that it forces them to be replaced. I can't imagine something made in the 80's is anywhere near as energy efficient as one would be made today.

I'm surprised they haven't figured out a way to have an onboard battery. You'd think with all the battery technology we now have it would be possible to have enough onboard electric to ensure safe passage to the next station in the event of a loss of power on the line.
