MK Piston Peak and Villains Land Construction Thread

Yeah, I think people are forgetting that you could do an illustration of Big Thunder Mountain in that “fun map style” and have just as many “places and details” as the Piston Peak illustration. “Here is the Big Thunder Mountain mining operation with its main offices and dynamite storage! Over...

    News Destination D23 2025

Uh, the regular world would shrug about destroying the Rivers of America. It's the ones that go to fan cons that would riot. Or at least chant "R.O.A! R.O.A! R.O.A!" much to Josh's embarrassment. There's a reason why the precise location wasn't announced on stage last year.

    News Destination D23 2025

Perhaps they were going to have Piston Peak be the main topic of discussion ... and they got cold feet about the 'boos' they'd get. They can't keep kicking the can and press-releasing this thing forever. They'll have to face the fans at some point. In 2028, when there's pretty landscaping to...

New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? No, and that’s OK

And another old home movie: None of this rising and falling landscaping. I rest my case. (I gotta get back to work!)

New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? No, and that’s OK

From a home movie, not the best angle, still shows the flat walkway on the south side of the restaurant. :

New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? No, and that’s OK

Bingo - best view yet! A clean, straight and level path on the right and left.

New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? No, and that’s OK

Here's the spot we're interested in. Looks pretty flat, but I'll grant that this model is not as good a a photograph of the actual location. Moving on...

New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? No, and that’s OK

A fine challenge, I accept. First stop, the Wonderful World of Disney "From Pirates of the Caribbean, to the World of Tomorrow". This shot of the model is inconclusive... I better keep going...

New Tomorrowland @ Disneyland? Is this the year it finally gets announced? No, and that’s OK

The rise in the pathway towards Galactic Grill that is on the north side of the Peoplemover tower was not there before TL 98. Both sides of the tower used to be level. This leads me to believe that at least that portion was a new 98 tunnel.

What is the Mount Rushmore of Imagineers?

I'll grant you Shanghai seems to be oddly designed (unlike beautiful Disneyland Paris). I don't care for the Shanghai castle, and the river that's more of a lake. I've never been there, and there are aspects to it that seem ingenious, but on the whole it does seem like a copy of a copy of real...

What is the Mount Rushmore of Imagineers?

I just think it's interesting that the Imagineer in charge of the original Disney-MGM park, DCA 2.0 (including Buena Vista Street and the Pier improvements, let alone Carsland) AND all of Shanghai Disneyland is still considered a tier below the group that made a few rides in the 1960's. I mean...

What is the Mount Rushmore of Imagineers?

I think it’s interesting that most of the “historically great” imagineers that people think of are the ones behind a relatively narrow slice of WDI history (Pirates, Mansion, Tomorrowland 67). Since that was a very influential slice of history, I get it, but there’s been a lot of Imagineers...

What is the Mount Rushmore of Imagineers?

Tony acknowledged these drawbacks by fixing them in the Paris version of Big Thunder.

What is the Mount Rushmore of Imagineers?

Gurr is an amazing talent worthy of WDI hall of fame, but I always tend to think of him more on the "Engineer" side of "Imagineer." It was John Hench that had the atommobile/doombuggy idea. Gurr figured out how to build it.
