The bolded is your interpretation. I agree the money shouldn’t be paid back, but I understand the sentiment that comments like that were coming from - which is not a lack of understanding of the child’s kindness, but rather sadness/disgust at the fact that the debt existed in the first place...

Pretty sure I already stated that of course children are charitable. Kids being charitable isn’t new to me either. Nor, would I venture to guess, is it to anyone here. As I said before, there is much adults can learn from kids.

No. The comments in this thread are expressing shock that the child needed to be charitable *in this way* - that paying off the lunch debt was something a child had to step up and do in the first place. That’s different than being shocked that a child is being charitable.

    That was Sorcerer’s point.

No one is shocked at a child *being* charitable. Of course children are charitable. IMO, actually, adults could learn a lot from children in many ways, and that’s one of them.

You started the quote by talking about virtue signaling in the comments here. Then talked about the twitter comments. Then followed up with the statements I asked about. And just referred to all of them as comments throughout. I did read it the way it looks. I didn’t add anything. I did...

I did. And it can be read two ways. That you came back here to comment on the comments on the tweet, or that you came back here to comment on the comments here after having read the tweet and subsequent comments. And considering there were similar comments made here about “why is a 9 year old...

Since you used quotes, which indicate someone actually said that word for word, who here said “lunch is a part of public education”?

Actually, the conversation went back to student lunch debt existing (and why, including the legalities of schools being required to provide food for a child who has none) because of a child saving up the money to pay the debt off for his school. Free hot lunch was part of it from some posters...

I didn’t say they can’t ever do it. I said there can be delays in them getting translated forms, during which delays their children may not have access to the free and reduced program and may also not be able to provide their own food, hence the school providing lunch regardless. The paperwork...

All required annual documents after initial registration are simply sent home. I know our district makes an effort to get things translated, but that doesn’t mean they are as readily available. It still takes time, during which time paperwork may not be filled out and children may still be in...

Not an excuse. She asked a question, I answered. Nothing more. Forms going home don’t qualify for interpreter services. If they did, the uproar about the cost of that would be the next refrain. Many districts don’t even have interpreters. We do because of proximity to DC and the percentage of...

Registration like that only happens once in this district - initial registration. As we’ve covered in this thread before, in person registration isn’t required every year in every school. It becomes another form sent home at the end of the year - which, again, wouldn’t qualify for interpreter...

I know our district would provide an interpreter for something like that if necessary. The free and reduced form comes home in the fall, the registration is dealt with in the spring. Those services would not typically be available for forms that go home (vs. registration where you have to come...
