    I just noticed your photo! Are you by any chance a Moffat? (My husband is a descendant of the clan -- we visited Moffat, Scotland last year and he owns several items in the tartan, so it jumped out at me.) Sláinte!

    That's awesome! Yes, I am, on my mother's side. If Ancestry.com is to be believed we descend from the last ancient chief when the clan was slaughtered by the Johnstones in the 1600s. Ironically, I especially like the clan motto, especially using the old latin: "I aspire to greater things".

    I only found out 18 months ago. Ironically, I have an old friend and coworker who is a Johnstone--she and her daughter howled when I told them. That's a great catch spotting the tartan!

    I agree - it is a really great motto. My husband's great-grandmother was Mabel Moffatt, born in upstate NY, descended from a James Moffatt who immigrated to the U.S. from Scotland in the mid-1800's. It's not a clan you see represented much, so it's nice to see another online!
