Voyage of the Little Mermaid thoughts

What is the central thought here on the forums revolving around Voyage of the Little Mermaid?

It seems to be a show the falls under the "underrated" category half, while at the same time falling under the "outdated and needs to go" category for the other half. I could be totally wrong though. I am a mixture of both. I, personally, believe the show is underrated! It's a cute little show that serves its purpose and can keep kids and families engaged for roughly 18 minutes. However, I would also not be opposed to it being replaced with something new and fresh, as the entire show DOES scream 90s.

I actually ALWAYS start the very beginning of every day at HS by taking my first-time friends to see this show! There's always a pleasant reaction. Nothing huge. Just a "that was pretty cool." I really love the Puppetry in Poor Unfortunate Souls and the Under the Sea segments.

Personally, I'd like to see the show stay, but with upgraded segments maybe stolen from the Broadway show, which seemed theme park quality moreso than broadway quality when I saw it.

I still enjoy it, though it's been scaled back since it premiered. They used to have a pre show, and also more laser effects, like King Triton in laser form. I like the atmosphere of being under water. But with a similarly titled ride in Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland, it might be time for this to go. I would understand if it did.

Best show on property. A perfect attraction.

But could use the usual tlc - despite WDW's carefully groomed modern image of 'run down overpriced crap'.

Mermaid is not a park original (it arrived at 2 year old toddler Disney-MGM), but both the park and the movie are from that same monumental year of 1989, the start of the Disney renaissance. An astonishing era and I love how both reflect that. There is a connection between them. I wish VotLM were to stay forever. One of the last bastions of vintage Disney-MGM now that both that magnificent park's Backlot and the Frontlot have been all but removed.

On our last trip two years ago I did this show and Nemo at AK for the first time. I was a little disappointed in Mermaid, it was entertaining but flawed in my opinion, Nemo was a much better show for me. I wouldn't mind seeing Mermaid replaced.

We enjoy the show, but it's time for something new. Since the park is moving away from "studio" production, maybe a ride instead of a show would be better.

As a theatre major/fanatic, I disagree. I personally believe every park should have about 3 to 4 stage shows! I was kind of hoping they would add the Toy Story musical to Toy Story Land.

Shows are great! They're people eaters, and they're a nice long break from the heat (without having to be a 45 minute "Energy Adventure" or movie for a change.) Hollywood studios has always been my favorite park because of the amount of shows it offers. Even in its Fireworks show!

This is, of course, a matter of opinion.

They used to have an effect where lasers in all 4 corners fanned out like the surface of water above you, and then the lasers moved UPWARD, giving the illusion that you were sinking further under the sea. It was a great effect, but it's been broken for years.

I still enjoy the show, but I wouldn't be surprised if Disney updated or replaced it.

They need to update the animation to HD or better quality and restore it to its original length. They already updated Ursula and that animatronic is much better than the original.

The story is a classic that carries itself, it could last a lifetime and never get old, only the tech gets old.

From 2014 to 2016 and part of 2017 the water curtain wasn't being shown, at least when we were there. Than when we went in November-December of 2017 it worked at two of the shows we watched.

The Little Mermaid brought Disney animation back to the forefront, I feel just like Snow White started it. It definitely needs a place and a show in WDW. The attraction at MK falls short of doing any justice to the movie. The show pays it it's due justice. By the way I will admit with embarrassment, I still do Under the Sea in the MK every time and can't get enough of the Queue.

I like it. My older kids all grew up watching the movie and for our trip in June, my 22 year old son even bought a LM t-shirt to wear lol! So I'm pretty sure they like it too.

It’s honestly a joke compared to something like Finding Nemo at Animal Kingdom. Here you get one bad song with puppets and obviously blacklight as they try to (and fail) hide the people controlling the puppets. Then you get one boring song as Ariel sits on a rock and sings for 3 minutes while nothing is happening. A cool puppet singing. A terrible montage. And then a horribly rushed ending.

It’s like getting whiplash in musical form. It starts off slow enough going through the movie and then goes into a full sprint to end the show and get you out of the theater.
